I know how to catch all manner of seafood as well as clean and prepare it. I also know how to make my own clothing, my own equipment to catch my food and I know how to build and repair boats and I know how to sail them as well.

I'm a skilled wilderness camper and know what wild vegetation is safe to eat. I can also start fires without modern tools.

Not bad for a gal from Brooklyn.

and you are an exception, how many of the "sex and the city" type could survive a week in the wild?

always some joker who thinks he's immune... ;) (that's a 'close encounters' quote btw)

billybob, this is no time for a 'big dick' contest.

any doubters left, go suck your tailpipe. ;) lol - seriously, if your car is such a blessing to you and everyone else, go suck on the tailpipe. oooohhhh, no??? that's 'cuz you at least have -that- much basic sense... how many lungfuls of unbreathable air does your car produce even during your shortest drives?

the atmosphere is a closed garage, and we're slowly committing suicide.

actually the arguments about how well youll survive with no order, etc would be moot since most likely those better armed would take anything away from you they wanted.

That would be worst case - since even if say half the population died , those with resources would still assume power.

Considering that in the last 4000 years thats basically always been the case.

lol counter to what? I just said us country folk will survive because we pretty much live off the land and adapt to its conditions more easily than say city dwellers.

The problem with that thought is that the country folk will be overrun and trampled by the millions of desperate city dwellers when the shit really does hit the fan.

And it would be damn hard to survive when almost all plant and animal life is gone. I think only the richest and most powerful would have any hope, as they could afford to build or live in installations with huge stockpiles of food and such, and even then, those would probably not last long enough.

With overpopulation - like any politically charged issue on the net, its difficult finding any sources that arent slanted to the left or to the right. I can find other sources that agree with your dieoff article (name alone would suggest a bias) and I can find sources 180 opposed to it.

Basically it boils down to we know not all livable land , nor sources of energy are being utilized now - so could we probably survive a reduction that global warming would entail as long as it occured in such a manner there was time to adjust to the new realities.

Here are a couple of middle of the road sources.

Heres one that lists capacity based on consumption - reasonably logical since survival and typical consumption are different things.

http://www.ecofuture.org/pop/rpts/mccluney_maxpop.html

heres one that lists several of the estimates:

http://www.ilea.org/leaf/richard2002.html

Of course any of these estimates would shift downward, depending on the severity of damage cuased by global warming.

I assume that bringing over population and billions dead into the thread is that global warming will drasticly reduce us to a carrying capacity below the current human population of earth today. In which case excess humans would starve to death.

I've had stewed squirrel when I was camping in the Smokey Mountains. I don't know if it's because I had been hiking up mountain all day and I was hungry as hell --but it was pretty good. Like Rabbit.

I read somewhere our planet is becomming warmer because our star is getting hotter (G2 variable). The ice caps on Mars are becomming smaller as well. If this is true and it seems so there is nothing we can do about this. Perhaps our star is in a pre Nova stage and children a Nova will destroy the planet Earth.

Oh, you know what all this Man-made global-warming BS is about: it's about trying to get the US to pass Kyoto, mess up our economy which will make us more dependent on other countries, allowing them to bully us into doing what they want us to do, such as voting their way at the UN.

It's bunk, actually. I'd like to see where you read this.

Our sun may be getting hotter, but it does so in a slow, cyclical way.

Quoting an AP article, the Sun will raise the Earth's temperature by "0.72 degrees F" in the next 100 years.
Even if they are right about the sun, I'm not worried about it.

Our sun isn't big enough to go Nova, btw. It'll last another few billion years before it finally starts getting bigger and bigger, making it too hot for us.

I forget where and you must remember our star goes through different phases where the output can and will change. Not all of the changes on our planet are cause by man. I would venture to say that most of them are not. I have to go back to work but will look tonight.

If you would really like to know the true cause of global warming , then I seriously suggest you click the provided link.

It's bunk because our sun, while it is getting hotter, is doing so at a very slow rate. Any major change in the sun takes millions, if not billions, of years. Our sun is not the type that goes nova, typically. Instead, ours expands outward to red giant size, consuming the planets as it goes. A fully developed Red Giant in the Sol system would consume all of the inner planets and probably ignite or consume (or both) the gas giants.

When it dies, it will be fuel collapse. A burst of radiation and matter outward, creating a thin nebula-like emission, and collapse to either a White Dwarf or (if it got big enough first) a singularity.

I see you respect others peoples viewpoints. I really forget where saw this infomation. I was doing research on something else and came across this. Also a very very small change in the output of our star would make a very BIG inpact on our planet. We are still learning about the true nature of the universe.

Thermodynamics still applies. Not sure what viewpoints has to do with this, I was calling it bunk because it's simply not a matter of opinion. A minor temperature increase in the sun creates one here, yes, but it's not like a 1:1 ratio laserbeam of heat is being shot at us so the increase here will be quite minimal comparitively.

Well there are a lot of factors that determine the temptures of out planet. The things that man do are only a very small part of the total picture. The title of this thread itself is a troll as if one man can spoil theearth. Each and every one of us makes an inpact. What kind of car do you drive. To the celebs what kind of Jet do you fly? Dont you know how much co2 and other polution that private jet makes? How about your SUV? Not only does it cause economic problems but polution as well. Pointing the finger at one person is a feel good easy answer and the scientists can not prove in a scientic way their theories of global warming.

Two links about global warming on Mars, which is interesting but a seperate ecosphere entirely.

The last one is interesting, but so are the credentials of the author. 40 years in the *energy industry*. Hm...

That was my quick reference to it. Need to get some infomation on the other planets which we do not have. If the sun is getting hotter than all of the planets temps will rise.
I saw this same infomation in Japanese but forget where and dont have the time to look for it until this weekend.
