You can get it mail order from Europe, or you can buy it in Europe and bring it into the US. You just can't sell it in the States.

Ooh, will have to check it out. I had some for the first time a few months ago. At least I vaguely recall trying it. That night is a bit of a blur. ;) Good stuff!

He also made red the color of vampyres. :D

Little did F.F. know--Sofia is now the drink of vampyres.

I get mine from http://www.spiritscorner.com/

Very sensible pricing and always safely shipped. One of the few senders of email newsletters I actually read - they find some very interesting stuff :-)

This site sells the Nouvelle-Orléans absinthe mentioned in the Wired article for £75.53 (about $134USD). That was including shipping to the U.S. and handling fees.

I know what I'm getting for the holidays! ;)

I was introduced to Absinthe a couple of years ago by the barman in the Hotel Europa, Prague.

I urge every one of you who has the slightest chance of getting there to visit this hotel. It is an unrefurbished survival from the wave of Art Nouveau hotels across the world just prewar. It is so original you can't believe it, except that the shabbiness is the proof. But the woodwork, the glass, the mirrors transport you to an amazing somewhere else, without a single fake item in sight. A visual feast almost beyond description.

I've seen the mile of Art Nouveau hotels along Miami's South Beach but this is in a different league.

How it survived I cannot understand. I think the owning family became decrepit and set in its ways, and someone lived, and fended the next generation of modernisers off, far longer than was otherwise decent.

How it really happened I do not know. But it is half empty, and I have a terrible fear some moron may decide to "do it up" and make money now Prague is beginning to boom. may even be too late already.

Not just the public spaces. The room, the bed, the bathroom fittings, everything absolutely untouched and stylistically astonishing. Nothing but absolutely superb quality of original execution could have prevented it all crumbling away.

Mind you it is a teensy weensy bit crumbled. Don't expect 5* 2005.
Extreme, astonishing visual beauty must matter to you

Juro,

You wouldn't have been able to get it in Paris - it's illegal in France.

Neurotoxins FTW!

A friend of mine made his own absinthe back in college... he drank it, and then the entire next day he was puking his brains out. It actually etched the plastic glass that he had it in.

Things that etch plastic are not good for you.
