SRSLY!!!

I've had severe stomach cramps and sickness for like.... 5 days now and its driving me INSANE..

I went to work today for the first time this week and I felt so shit I almost started crying the cramps got that bad again.

The DR said there is nothing they can do after making me wait over an HOUR sat huddled up in a ball.

WHAT CAN I DOOOOOOOOOO

I am tired of being curled up in a ball on my bed rocking like a looney, good job I have my laptop, although its hard to type side on.

:'(

Cranberries might help. They have a chemical in them that prevents bacteria from sticking together and could maybe help clear up your system faster. It works on UTI's and on the bacteria that cause dental plaque, so it might be worth a shot. ;)

Don't use the same fork or surfaces on raw meat as on cooked meat. :P

The longest I ever had food poisoning was two days, so 5 sounds like it might be something nasty or perhaps not food poisoning. Contact a different physician.

Willow-

It doesn't last 5 days! It wont take it that long to be out of your system, unless you picked up a parasite. ( I don't mean a creepy SL stalker, either).

5 days is too damn long - get thee to another doctor! It just doesn't sound right to me and could be something serious going on. Doctor's are idiots, you have to put your health in your own hands via second opinions, research and holistic remedies.

Willow hun,

Honestly, it depends what it is. Some are pretty nasty and can take days, maybe weeks to fight off (and tend to kill the very young or very old). Others you can more or less ignore. It seems you got something nasty somewhere... but at you're age, it's not gonna be a problem.

Hang in there hun... rest up, and you'll be fine.

5 days is too long - not that food poisoning isn't the cause, just that it gets a bit concering after a certain point. It may be time to give the little bacteria an antibody bath.

And cranberry juice does speed the process some - just get the real stuff with as little sugar as you can find. You want to break up the colonies, not give them a feast. If nothing else, it replaces the water you're losing.

Seriously.. 5 days is pretty long for food poisoning. Most food poisoning only lasts a day or so, as your body tends to purge out everything.

What kind of food poisoning did the doctor say it was?

I have had food poisoning that has lasted at least 5 days, but I have a bad stomach so that was the main reason for it. It really depends on the severity of the poisoning and if the person has digestive issues.

Hope ya feel better soon.

Yeah, doctors are people too. Even though they sometimes think they are the final authority, there is always someone else who knows more. Sometimes it's not even an unintentional misdiagnosis as much as something else. A family member of mine has to have a very expensive operation because their current doctor didn't inform them of a preexisting condition he had noticed they had for YEARS simply because he was tired of having them as a patient and tried to wrap things as fast as possible.

Willow.... 5 days way too long for food poisoning. Check with another M.D. could be you have a bacteria or some nasty that would respond to a course of antibiotics.

Make sure you're keeping yourself hydrated with fluids, especially those with electrolytes like Gatorade, etc. Dehydration makes a bad bad situation worse!

Hugs to you and hope you feel better soon :)

If you picked up salmonella or something like that you could be sick for a few weeks, though it should gradually get better. I hope you feel better soon :)

i'd read recently that the only good safe foods you should eat while dealing with food poisoning - BRAT - bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. (bland, i know - but you may not be eating much anyways with all that hurtin'... :( )

and i agree; five days sounds a bit on the long side (though not entirely abnormal) - still, if you haven't, and you can, you should get a second op.

omg, i feel sooooo sorry for you suffering from it... sounds like the worst case i've heard personally, and i've watched folks go through some pretty bad spells of it!! three, four days tops for them... i honestly can't remember ever suffering from it myself, though i might've had a 'sick period' that was minor fp, though i might've thought it to be something else.

diverticulitis?
11-03-2005 19:13
Have you been checked for diverticulitis? I had it and it was misdiagnosed as "constipation" by my local urgent care. They gave me laxatives and sent me home. My severe stomach pains got worse and a few days later I was puking up blood.

I went to the emergency room and saw a real doctor. They got me the treatment I needed.

Hey Guys!

Thanks for your replies and well wishes :)

After another night of tossing and turning, I just woke up and made an appoitment with another DR, so I shall be toddling off in a bit to howl in pain there instead.

I am feeling alot brighter today.

In all honesty, I didn't think it WAS food poisoning as I don't remember eating anything that could be dodgy, but well, you think DR's know best dontcha. They said it was either that or "a bug" and that it would have to sort itself out...

Considered colonic irrigation?

Might not make it all go away but your pooper will be clean as whistle!

Which is more than I can say about my whistle........

Oh hon, I feel for you, my ex has diverticulitis disease (very rare for younger people, he was only 31 when it started), his symptoms started about 6 years ago, he was treated for peptic ulcers, irritable bowel, coeliac disease, anything except what was the matter with him, then early last year, he was extremely ill and was rushed to hospital, the consultant he had was fantastic and he was put straight on to IV anti-biotics, then within days he was strong enough for his operation to remove 9inches of bowel, diverticulitis is a terrible thing to go through, I am glad you got the proper treatment quickly, I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Well back from the Doctors, feeling ALOT better today, my stomach did some kind of growling chorus all night and this morning (touch wood) it hasn't flared up yet.

Someone suggested maybe IBS... I'm not sure, but I know it fsckin hurt like hell over the last 5 days. I haven't eaten in like 5 days LOL, and now i'm kinda weary too :(

Dr just said it was obviously just a "bug" and to take paracetamol...

HELPFUL.
