Etymology

If you want the history on the "yiff" word, a few people at Everything2.com claim to have the story. While its eventual purpose became somewhat similar to that of the f-word, it's certainly no y-bomb; it's still rather tied to its origins as a cute, cheerful word. "Yiff! Yiff!" was apparently once simply an equivalent of "Yes! Yes!". Considering this and its story of being a 'sound made while mating', I think it's not hard to deduce how it must've evolved.

Heh...if you think "yiffing" is a funny topic, it probably never occurred to you that sex as a whole is extremely amusing. The grimaces and sounds people make when they're at "it" are just hilarious and everyone seems to ignore the fact that the same body parts used for sexual intercourse are also used for waste disposal. If I believed in Intelligent Design, I'd probably use that fact as a proof for the existance of God's sense of humor.

That sounds kinda familiar, but I think I got it from a book written by the great philosopher Eric Idle, "The Road to Mars". Other great thinkers like Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett seem to hold similar views. Douglas Adams for example had an interesting point of view on the shape of human noses.

What is love? Baby don't hurt me? Don't hurt me, no more? C'mon, I can't be the only one who had that pop into their head. |
