"Is it hot enough for you?"

I'm kind of tired of hearing that - we topped 103 yesterday in the Midwest US and today looks like more of the same. When asked today if it was hot enough, I responded that we needed another 10-20 degrees in order to be really hot.

Of course, the poor folks in the Dakotas already have that:

The National Weather Service in Rapid City received reports of 120 degree temperatures in Usta in the northwest corner of the state, but the reports had not been officially confirmed by Saturday evening. If the reports are accurate, the temperature would tie the state record for high temperatures set in Gann Valley in 1936.

NWS meteorologist Jeff Johnson in Rapid City said temperatures reached 111 degrees at Rapid City Regional Airport, beating the previous record of 110 degrees set in 1989 and 1973.

Temperatures in downtown Rapid City missed the all-time record of 107 by one degree, Johnson said.

There were also record highs of 116 in Philip and 111 in Interior, and The Associated Press reported 115 degree temperatures in Pierre, 114 degrees in Mobridge and 108 in Mitchell.

116 degrees. That's so far past my "comfort level" I can't even fathom it. Even if it's what we call a dry heat, as one co-worker noted "they cook chickens in dry heat".

It's upper 90's here with high humidity and my air conditioner is broken. It's supposed to be this way all week. I predict I will be very cranky by week's end (as in even crankier than usual).

I'm from South Dakota. I can confirm the 120 degrees F on Saturday here on the Rosebud Reservation and 117 F yesterday, if the three temp gauges I looked at were accurate. Raging housefire + horribly hot northern wind in Nebraska, just across the state line from me, took out 10 houses and a lot of trees, forcing evacuation of half the town of Valentine, NE. I am feeling like burnt toast

Granted, it's better than some folks have it, but it's no picnic. Luckily, in a month or so this will be a memory and we'll move on to the next season. We'll only bake for a few days.

It's only 28 (82.4F) today, but I *wish* it was a dry heat. The humidity (which is at 70%) is making it seem like 38 (100.4).

It's in the low 90's here and raining, nothing unusual of Florida in August. I'm real close to the coast so I get a bit of a breeze.

It was 102 degrees last night. At ten PM.

The humidity tends to waver between twenty and sixty percent here.

During the day, it's been known to go up to 114 easily in June, 127 in August.

I love this place... during the other seven months. Summer lasts too long and is too damned hot.
