<snip>street corner hustlers have moved elsewhere.

Where?

Who protects them (the people in the new neighborhood where the hustlers have moved to)?

At what point do camera's become so prolific that they become ineffective as any sort of tool in law enforcement?

How long do you think it will be before street corner hustlers find a way around them anyway and private citizens are left holding the bill and without privacy rights?

I'm truly amazed that some people can't see why. Don't get me wrong, I can see your point, and I said it myself earlier, if you have nothing to hide you feel you have nothing to fear. But the real truth is deeper and much more important to the way our society functions. Do you want big brother, do you really know what that means ? Or would you rather work toward a society with a culture of trust instead of paranoia ?

Tapes can, are, and will be used in unscrupulous and unethical ways to entrap and deceive whenever the prosecuting agencies see fit. Tapes can be altered, don't let anyone tell you they can't, modern digital cctv even more so. CCTV footage is often extremely unclear and I've personally seen the most incredible and I mean incredible assumptions made from extremely blurry images. I've worked with people that process these things.

Doesn't that just say it all to you ? "moved elsewhere"

I have plenty to hide and I that's why I hide it, which involves not engaging in my nefarious activities on open street corners.

The use of corrupted images to entrap and deceive will happen regardless of whether there is a publicly known camera taking photos of public spaces. If they want to use this to their advantage, they would not go about it using the obvious photo sources.

There will never be a society based on a culture of trust. This is a pipe dream. I don't leave my house unlocked, I use security on my property, including video surv. and various alarms, I don't talk to strangers.

People want to feel safe. They do not have that feeling now. They have more immediate safety concerns than shadowy attempts to discredit, entrap and deceive through technical trickery.

As I said, there is no completely crime free end result. Of course, as new tools to combat crime arrive, the criminals innovate. It is an ongoing battle. My privacy is not defined by being able to go out in PUBLIC and not be videotaped. Lark's concerns as to what is done with those images is a separate, albeit related, concern.

Let me know when they want to videotape me in the shower and I will feel differently.
