From: Briana Dawson psssssssst.... I said MODICUM, not STAR-STRUCK.
The only reasons "stars" pay through the nose to sit with them is so they can donate to the campaign, not because the Senator is some sort of legislative star.
Briana Dawson gosh --and here I've been donating to campaigns my whole adult life --and the only person I met was Tip O'Neill --who ate my lasagna when I left to powder my nose. (True Story)

From: Kevn Klein At the very least it was unethical. It broke the rules senators must follow.
"Senate ethics rules generally allow lawmakers to accept gifts from federal, state or local governments, but specifically warn against taking such gifts -- particularly on multiple occasions -- when they might be connected to efforts to influence official actions.
"Senators and Senate staff should be wary of accepting any gift where it appears that the gift is motivated by a desire to reward, influence or elicit favorable official action," the Senate ethics manual states. It cites the 1990s example of an Oregon lawmaker who took gifts for personal use from a South Carolina state university and its president while that school was trying to influence his official actions.
"Repeatedly taking gifts which the Gifts Rule otherwise permits to be accepted may, nonetheless, reflect discredit upon the institution, and should be avoided," the manual says.
Several ethics experts said Reid should have paid for the tickets, which were close to the ring and worth between several hundred and several thousand dollars each, to avoid the appearance he was being influenced by gifts." You've convinced me, after reading the criteria you've outlined and some additional consideration I retract my statement. Democrats are not more corrupt than Republicans. I just want to add: Yet. Oh, and: Anymore. Of course, the party in power is always more corrupt, because they have... power. What's the point of winning influence with those who can't do anything for you?

The most logical statement in this entire thread. Does anyone here actually believe there is such a thing as an "honest" politician anymore?

One Democratic name.... William Jefferson (D-La)
The boxing thing that started this thread is merely a "tip of the iceberg" teaser... it suggests that there may be MORE than is obvious. Like maybe $90,000 in a legislator's frozen food containers in his home's freezer.

Big difference between the Partys IMO. Democrats dump corrupt members after they order an investigation of them. Republicans promote them to bigger positions.

From: Kendra Bancroft If only Denny Hastert was as rough on his Republicans on corruption as Nancy Pelosi was on William Jefferson. Oh yeah, asking him nicely to resign from one committee and then doing nothing when he ignores you. Yeah, she's tough as nails. So if you get caught doing something bad, I might just nicely ask you to accept punishment, but if you don't want to be punished, that's cool too. Imagine if we raised our kids that way: "Honey, did you break that window?" "Yes mommy." "Would you like to be grounded then, please?" "Ahhh, I'd really rather not." "Oh. OK, never mind then. Just try not to do it again. Unless, you know, you think you can get away with it, and not cost Mommy any money." "OK mommy." The other point to make in this case is the actions of the other Senators who went to fights with Reid: Senator John McCain (R-AZ) insisted on paying for his own tickets, to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Senator John Ensign (R-NV) recused himself from upcoming legislation concerning issues of interest to the Nevada Gaming Commission. Moreover, if you actually take the time to read the entire, you'll find that Reid was tied up with Abramoff, as well. It's not just this one-time gaming tickets thing. This incident formed part of a larger pattern.

There's an old quote..... 'If you can't take their money, drink their liquor, sleep with their women, and still vote against them, then you don't belong in the Senate.'
Democrats belong in the Senate apparently.
