Who really discovered Americay?

Was it Chris Columbus, Leaf Erickson, some guy from China, an Irishman or who?

Bzzt! It wasn't any of them guys. America wasn't really "discovered" by nobody. Back in the olden days it was connected to Asia and some people just went a'walking until they found themselves in a new place. Nowadays we know them as Native Americans, Indians and Eskimos.

Why am I even posting this bit of obvious knowledge? Mainly because I feel that a few million people out there don't know this and since I am such a helpful person I am sharing my knowledge.

Like everything else in any forum I expect some knucklehead to dispute me.

You know something Teeny? My father claims he got an honorable mention medal at the annnual alt.flame awards celebration back in the 90s or 80s and he says its because he was such a good post editor.

He taught me everything he knows.

I can, and I can speel it

but intil my spelling skills reach my vocabulary (and since vBulletin won't add a spell check), you're gonna have to deal with my creative spelling, and otherses as well

If you use internet explorer there is a free spellcheck utility called iespell, i believe.

For firefox, there is a free spellchecker called spellbound that seemed to work fine.

There is a program for fifty bucks called As-U-Type by a company called Fanix that works in many windows programs on the fly, somewhat like the spellchecking in MS Word. This would do spellchecking not only in forms like we use in the forums but in notepad and elsewhere in windows.

i use both firefox and IE, and i did look into iespell actually(read about in vbulletin forums), i just hesitate to add another program to windows. winxp pro is so stable, i guess i am scared to tempt fate to the blue screen of death

and IE crashes seem to piss me off more than windows crashes (why I don't know)

and I am a major multitasker with ADD (like 20 browser windows open at all times). I have a 3.0 P4 HT processor and 3 gigs of dual channel ram with a 800mhz FSB but firefox acts pretty wierd , stops responding, when i open tons of windows and tabs

so as much as i want to use firefox, i tend to default to IE

anyway, now you can finish that book you were writing about me =)

Actually, Susie, I must disagree with you. It was discovered. It was mapped. There may have been people here already -- but all major Western and Eastern civilizations did not know the two continents existed. So, yeah, as far as like, all of Europe and Asia are concerned, it was discovered. Had the Native Americans had international oceanic travel capabilities, then they would have "discovered" Europe and Asisa.

erm no. There were Europeans, Africans and Asians before there was a human on American soil. From the study of genetics, as well archeological evidence, it's clear that most of the native American Indians are of Asian descent. From some more recent genetics studies, there is also evidence that suggests around 25% may have european descent. The theory states that pre-historic europeans may have crossed the Atlantic to the north during an ice age.

edit to add: PS the nature of the genetic analysis used eliminates the possibility that the presence of European DNA is a result of more recent mixing.

Makes me think of the Far Side comic where native Americans are standing on the shores watching the European ships come in, saying jubilantly, "We've been discovered!"

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry?
