Sounds like the author and backers of the original bill are bigots to me, they just happen to be Republicans.

Yep, but all the bills aimed at discriminating against homosexuals have been sponsored by republicans pandering to the Christian right and have not been strongly opposed by moderate Republicans. The amount of sympathy I have for any Republicans being tarred with the same brush... exactly nil.

Yep, I was talking about Republican elected officials, not voters (but I do have to wonder if they're against the issues that are important to such a large portion of the Republican base why on earth do they continue to vote Republican?).
