ebay would nuke his account instantly.
they reserve the right to ignore the letter of the law. kinda like LL ![]() besides, most payment methods just do chargebacks in cases like this. _____________________

That's why I sell so much on eBay and why so many people buy on ebay. It sucks that I have to give great service to everyone, but it's awesome how everyone trusts me on my word alone. _____________________

I think SecondLife could learn a lot from eBay in terms of dispute management.

The value of eBay is that it's a trusted marketplace and you don't have to read every last word to make sure you're not getting scammed. It's not a scam though. It says clearly that all you get is the box. If someone buys it that's exactly what they're going to get. Sounds fair to me. _____________________

Well, if you check my link, you'll see that eBay clearly disagreed.

Ebay's never been noted for its sense of humor. If someone can sell a friggin grilled cheese sandwich with the virgin mary on it, then I see no reason why people shouldn't be able to sell empty xbox 360 boxes. This is clearly discriminatory to certain kinds of stupid people.

Definitely, if you look at the description, almost every sentence there in the description clearly states, "it's just the box", even up to putting in all caps right in the middle "YES YOU ARE GETTING AN EMPTY BOX, SO DO NOT ASK". ![]() _____________________

This is clearly discriminatory to certain kinds of stupid people. ![]() Well, some people would probably say the same thing about buying virtual land. I know where you're coming from and to an outsider of the eBay world, this probably seems funny, except that this sort of thing happens continually to the bane of all honest sellers. Using subtle tactics (far more subtle then this fellow) to misrepesent are commonplace on eBay and it really undermines the trust. For example, eBay sellers will have pictures of items just to get people to look at their ad, even though they're not selling that item. Basically this makes the image gallery useless for honest sellers. Fortunately even if you get what the eBay ad says, you can leave negative feedback which discourages anyone from doing these sorts of silly things. The rule of thumb is really this: unless you want to sell something that the person is going to be happy getting and glad that they did business with you - forget about selling on eBay. Caveat Emptor is not something you hear a lot in the eBay forums. As for the above, really, I can only suspect that they had to have been stolen accounts. After getting about a 100 feedback you'd have to have gone through shock treatment or something before you'd try to scam someone like that. _____________________

The sad part is that it looks like the Mom missed a chance to teach her son a valuable lesson. This guy evidently wasn't trying to defraud anyone, but there are plenty of people who would. How better to prepare your kid than by teaching them to read carefully, understand what you're signing, and get advice if it seems too good.

Note the "No longer a registered user" What a waste of 109 feedback .. well, unless he stole the account. You do realize that 109 feedback can be earned in a day or two, don't you? Do people still not realize how easy it is to get a few hundred feedback in a matter of days. It starts to get a bit harder after the first few days, but it still raises extremely quickly, ecspecially if you are running a legitimate retail business buying from wholesalers alongside the much faster moving rating sale business that can be done while still staying in Ebay's regulations. Everyone knows what auctions are for ratings only, even though they don't state anywhere in the auction that the intention is purely positive ratings and nothing else. |
