FIC is shorthand for the "Fetid Inner Core".
It's SL's version of the "Military Industrial Complex".
Or, put another way: It's commonly believed that if someone like you or me IM'd Phillip Linden and said "Hey, you need to do this..." that we'd be completely ignored. Yet if one of the FIC were to do the same, that he'd hop to and bow to their every whim.
Who belongs to the FIC? It's hard to say, because there is no specific list... but you can generally assume that the more money someone spends on SL every month, the more the Lindens listen to what they have to say.
And it's quite possible that they're right to do so. After all, it's the big money spenders that are (in theory) paying the bills over at Linden HQ.

It has been suggested that there is a select group of residents who are celebrated by Linden Lab, given preferential treatment, and allowed privileged access to Lindens.
Personally, I think the conspiracy theories are crazy, but I have no doubt that the Lindens have unique relationships with a number of long time residents. Additionally, certain residents and resident groups have demonstrated particular skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviour that LL may or may not find interesting or useful. In the past LL has used these folks and their creations to achieve certain marketing or content goals.
I think cries of "FIC" are characteristic of a victim mentality that many people exhibit at some point in their life. Even if the claims are accurate, the question remains, "So what?"

there is even more to the FIC story than Dr. Tardis and I have stated. btw, "Military Industrial Complex" of SL is a good analogy  "Fetid" and "Feted" have two distinct meanings. I think that your perspective determines your choice of words. The initial meaning was supposed to denote a "special group", therefore FETED. Some soon saw the group as part of a FETID inner core. There were a whole bunch of controversies along the growth path of SL that often resulted in accussations of a FIC to explain Linden behavior. there have been lists of suspected FIC members (in jest mostly). I'm pretty sure Prokofy Neva was the greatest (as in most annoying) proselytizer of FIC conspiracies who ever existed in all of the SL universe. |

Often times a thing will have an official name such as the one given, Feted Inner Core, and then there will come names for what actually happens. Which I think you found on your list in the form of, FIC = Flame Ignition Chamber, at least insofar as what occurs in these forums sometimes. |
