Is there a mechanism to recover inventory items lost in the 03-23-2006 asset server crash?
I was in the middle of an avatar change and lost many items, including parts of the AV itself, when things went bad.
A pointer to how to get my stuff back would be much appreciated.
$1250L and counting to recover from this problem so far.... :-/
Thanks, Mako

This seems to be a problem with the new version; I lost 3 of my outfits yesterday, as well as my aircar... Upon contacting LL, they instructed me to perform a clean install of SL with the hopes that it would prevent inventory loss in the future. I am not sure how this would help, as the inventory is a function of LL's servers, not the client, but what do I know? However, talking to the lindens, it does not sound as if they believe I am entitled to any sort of financial compensation, despite the loss of well over 1,000$L worth of inventory...

I believe your only realistic hope is to ask the designer for a new copy. This has come up in another thread regarding the disappearing of inventory or damaged clothing etc. I know it is not the desingers fault, but this is the suggestion that was posted (by a linden) in the other thread. You might also try dumping your cache and see if it comes back then. Perhaps it is on the server and just not showing up in your local cache. Some of the other threads regarding the recent asset server issues: /111/94/95631/1.html/111/df/95107/1.html/111/d3/94227/1.html-DB

I'm missing items too
03-25-2006 17:12
I have several items in my inventory that I can't wear or rez. When I try I get a message saying:
Unable to create requested object. Object is missing from database.
Contacted live help and a Linden told me to clear my cache and relog. I did and it didn't resolve the problem. Reported it to live help right away and no one responded.
It seems obvious that this is related to the problems with the asset server the other night...

Is that really the best response the Lindens have?

Is that really the best that you can come up with, that we should go back to the content creators and ask them to replace items that were broken because of problems with the asset db? That doesn't sound like their problem to fix, to me.
I have items I can't rez because they are not in the database. What can be done to fix that?

Well first off, it is not what "I" came up with, it is what a linden said as your "realistic" hope. The reason for the "can't find object" is the asset server database is corrupt. However the original creators UUID key/object hopfully is still intact and if that is the case you can get another copy (again if they are willing to do so). Take a look at the links I posted to other threads and you will see for yourself.
Again it is a problem with the asset server, but once corruption occurs from what I have heard, your only "realistic" hope is to get another copy from the original creator.
As a side note, I have ran into this asset server problem even before 1.9 came out. So it goes back for a while, it has just got worse. Others were complaing of such issues, and apparently it was ignored untill the servers actually crashed (well at least nothing was aknowledged until the crash).

I have items I can't rez because they are not in the database. What can be done to fix that? I think thats the best response they can give you. If its not on the asset server anymore then its gone. Your either buying it again, or asking the creator very nicely for another copy (and the longer you put off doing that, the less chance you have IMO)

I had this problem too, once, and LiveHelp told me to file a bug report with as many details as possible - the item was restored the next day. I would suggest you also include the object UUID (right-click on it in inventory, select "Copy UUID" and paste that into the bug report) so the missing object can be identified correctly.
