I reported this as a bug this morning, but it was so completely bizarre, I thought I'd describe it here and see if anyone else had experienced it.

I run SL in windowed mode, and a couple nights ago while I was logging into my character, I opened up a browser window to check out a web site I frequent. After a few moments, I noticed my avatar had fully rezzed but something was strangely different. The texture of the 'shirt' portion from the outfit she was wearing (this outfit by Wraith Unsung- mature content must be enabled, as there is nippage in the screenie) had been replaced with the web page I had just been viewing seconds earlier!!!

I mean, I could see the graphics and headlines from the page on her back and arms, I could read the website's URL on her left forearm, and the browser's navigation buttons ran across her shoulders! I was kind of in a hurry at the moment, so I changed outfits and went to visit some friends.

However, this morning I put the same outfit back on, and was alarmed to find my shirt still looking like a web page. Now here's the thing- regardless of what happened to get the browser window into my outfit, that article of clothing was No Copy/No Modify! Despite this, I attempted to take it off so I could inspect the shirt and see if I could check the object's contents. Alas, after I dragged the item out of my inventory it disappeared completely. It was no longer in my possession, and it wasn't anywhere in the vicinity. I was on my own property with 30 prims available, and I even poofed my dungeon to see if perhaps the shirt had gotten stuck in the floor. It was gone.

So... here I am, shirtless and without even a screenshot now to describe what has to be the oddest apparent technical glitch I've ever personally experienced in a game...

You say you dragged it from your inventory to the ground. Was you in your home at the time? I mean, did you drag it ontop of a prim that is part of your floor for instance?

I have lost things before by dragging them to the floor, and i have found i inadvertantly put them inside the floor prim. Maybe check the contents of the prim you dragged them to?

Other than that, i don't have a clue whats up.

Haha, this happened to my jeans once. It was a screenshot of my *screen*(Not just SL). People could read my IMs on my jeans, I had to adjust them a bit then they went back to their jean texture lucky!

Hmm, if you see webpage on your textures, this could mean cache is reaaaly broken. This means that secondlife has a problem with memory management and/or memory leaks. But your friend's should not see this broken textures, otherwise it would mean that SL is uploading textures from cache back to server (what for?). IMHO it is only viewer problem.

If I ever find the shirt again, I'll try clearing my cache and testing that theory. It's a good observation.

This is what's colloquially known as a "bad texture bake" bug and has been around for a long time.

General workaround: right-click yourself, select APPEARANCE, see if the "web page" has disappeared. If it has, then--you're not done yet! Adjust a slider of your shirt (hopefully it's modifiable) and SAVE ALL, then CLOSE.

This should "rebake" your textures so you appear alright again.

I have some of these too... I put them in a special folder.

I will also add this experience to the development queue file (it's a known issue)--thanx for describing it in such an amazing way!

I've seen it happen to someone else before - the end result is the badly-baked texture ends up visible there for the world to see. See this pic, taken around Christmas-time, in The Shelter, of someone else's legs:

I apologize that I can't remember whose legs are in this pic, but her pants were plain purple without the addition of an IM window before this happened! (I can't see anything personal or secret in the text on those legs, I think it's an image of her IM tab to me, so there's no privact problem)

It confused, and still confuses, the holy heck out of me - I can't begin to understand how a piece of client UI screenshot from someone else's machine makes it "back through the system" like that to then be visible to everyone else. I could comprehend it, if it were only a local cache-corruption!

It shows how bizarre are certain "features" of SL. I think I can see part of your name on tab name, so this is indeed her im window. I think if it is possible to upload her im window, then it should be possible with some hacking to upload a teture without paying for it. Now THATS a feature :)

Good news and thank-yous. At Lord Wishbringer's suggestion, I rezzed my dungeon, checked the contents, and sure enough my shirt was in there. And better yet, I put the shirt on to show a girlfriend but it was back to normal! Now yetihehe mentioned possible cache corruption so I did clear my cache this morning... but I honestly can't remember whether I did so before or after I got the shirt back, so can't say for sure whether that helped. Anyway, I'm glad I held back on repurchasing that outfit!

Whew. That's a relief to hear.

One key thing with SL: if your avatar manifests graphics problems, like web pages on your bod or stripey lines on your face, others WILL see the same thing because of the way avatar textures are "baked", even if it's just a problem on your end (like an overheating card, on some occasions).

/me looks at a *cough* website, then switches back to SL.
Wait.. These arent my breasts. o.o

EDIT:
/me gets a good idea... GUI clothing! People will pay good money to have a shirt displaying a IM window! Expecially with quotes and things people said! You read me like a book. :p

Yep, this bug happens to me all the time while testing textures. It's repeatable every time the little blue dialogue box in the lower right pops up while I'm entering appearance. Others can also see the buggy texture bakes on my avatar too. I just do like Torley mentions above, and everything returns to normal :)

What do I do if it's not modifiable? I have a pair of gloves that b0rked with a rogue texture, but they're not modifiable. I tried clearing the cache and relogging - no effect. Also tried modifying another piece of clothing worn and saving from appearance - didn't trigger a rebake of the gloves. They look fine in "appearance" mode btw.
