I have also had this problem while building, with no clue as to why it happens -- if it's due to occlusion culling maybe or an entirely different bug. Sometimes I click a large build to edit, and some of the prims disappear from view, though I see them still outlined in edit. Sometimes I move my camera around and part of the build disappears, which is why I wondered if it was due to the occlusion culling.
When prims disappear while I'm moving the camera around, I've noticed they are usually partially covered by prims in front or they were momentarily out of my field of view. To get them back, I have to keep moving my camera around for awhile. Sometimes I fly away and come back so the whole structure loads again. The following pictures were taken yesterday. I had originally started on the side of the build where the floor is visible -- so half the build was theoretically behind the other half in my camera view. I walked over to the other side, where I'm seemingly floating in midair but the invisible floor is still doing its job. It took a couple minutes of trying to move my camera, clicking the build in edit, moving the camera around some more, then the invisible floor finally rezzed for me again. This is just one instance of many I've experienced since the latest client upgrade. Very common for me while building. http://freelands.net/joko/secondlife/disappearingprim.JPG http://freelands.net/joko/secondlife/reappearingprim.JPG And because any time technical details are mentioned, they keep asking for specs... I just wanted to say that I'm also suffering this problem. May I suggest moving this to top priority on the bugs list? It makes building REALLY frustrating

I love random invisible prims

Happens to me all day long as I build. The question I am wondering now is what video card do you people have? Maybe it's only on low-end, or on Radeon cards. 128 MB Radeon 9000 series and I got the crashing bug horribly until I reinstalled, but the problem of the vanishing prim is almost as bad. I can be standing on a prim, working on it, and as I go to edit it, poof. I wonder if LL has a system with a 128MB video card to test...

I also have trouble with disappearing prims. Not all the time. usually they are fine. But once and a while something will be gone. Last night it was a TV. I even tried leaving the area and coming back and it was still missing. Yet I could right click on it. If I turned it on, I could watch a video or such. However as soon as I turn it off, the TV went inviable again. Very strange. When I logged in this morning it was fine though.

There's a bug here, as described especially in the latter part of this thread--it's not the same one as the "Fixed a bug causing objects to disappear due to occlusion culling" from the earlier patch.
Whiplash Plasma also has a good simple description of it: I've noticed since V 1.10.0 that existing objects will seem to dissappear while editing another object. They visually disappear but reappear a short time later, so they are obviously not actually being deleted. The only related observations so far are 1) the object that disappears seems to be one that is adjacent to the one being edited and 2) it only seems to reappear some time after leaving edit mode. Of course, this makes building a bit difficult if you are moving around from object to object. I'm curious if anyone else is seeing this. Thanx to everyone who sent in bug reports about this--we got quite a lot! We're aware of the issue and hope to have it resolved. _____________________

Torley,
Good news you've got it identified and hopefully are working on a solution. I have to amend my original posting to be more like the bug report I filed with LL, which says that, in fact, this bug appears even when not editing. As others have mentioned, things just randomly seem to disappear and reappear. However, it's incredibly frustrating when it occurs during building and editing, because building basically comes to a standstill when an important piece vanishes and , for example, you can't align objects to it or, if it's the piece you were actually working on, can't do *anything* with it. As I mentioned in my bug report, a teleporter vanished while I was in a skybox. I had to find an alternate method of returning home! ![]() Hopefully we'll see a fix for this in a soon-to-come update. |

Bump for evidence that I am not the only one with the dissapearing prim problem which the Lindens I have spoken to claim that I am the only one experiencing.

I've been bug reporting this for over a month now.
It took photographic evidence to get anyone to acknowlege its exstence at live help. Some other winners: Linksets coming unlinked Prims in linksets suddenly behaving as if phantom (they arent) I've pretty well stopped trying to build or script at this point, at least with respect to anything tedious or otherwise involved. The situation improved as of the last update in the sense that now the vanished prims come right back shortly after vanishing; if violently flickering/flashing prims can be said to be an improvement over vanishing prims.
