Enabling agp acceleration is not really something you should do, if you have a pcie card, it will drop you alot in fps, even tho this says otherwise.

Just a minor thing, im using a 6800gt pcie, and enabling agp will drop frames 50-70%.

Why cant i get rid of this msg <.< every time i log on now.

Thili, you have a problem somewhere because I am using a 6800 Ultra pci-e that does not give that error and turning on agp acceleration has little or no effect either on or off. I am getting 30fps with AA and AF filtering turned up to max. Something isn't right with your setup as I have been running with agp enabled since last summer with no effect on performance.

Some tests
all where formatted, reinstalled win xp pro, + sp2, pc1-2 both using 6800gt pcie 256mb vid cards, same place in SL , same options, (fps is 'ish)

pc1 :
Abit KN8-SLI,nForce4 SLI, 2 gig ram
SL 32fps : with agp enabled drops to 8 fps

pc2 :
Asus A8N-SLI Premium, nForce4 SLI, 4 gig ram
SL 33fps : with agp enabled drops to 9 fps

pc3 (older, gave it to my mother)
Abit UL8, ULI M1689, agp (yus), 2 gig ram
SL 26fps : enabling agp +3 fps ish

Enabling agp hit me like a truck fps wise with the pcie machines, been that way forever, so i dont really bother with it, now i get that msg every time i log on <.< didnt do that before i formatted pc's hehe :p

This is my main machine

4400+ X2 AMD duel core
A8N-SLI Premium
Single 6800Ultra 512m
2gig memory

This is with AA and AF sliders to max, Quality

AGP on is 26.0
AGP off is 25.9

I don't have pics but when set at default AA and AF, I get approx 45 - 60 fps and AGP has little effect either.

This is the main machine (4400+) with the view distance maxed to 512m

The Jaggyfest pic is with the default settings on the 6800Ultra

The second pic is what cha pay your money for when you buy that high priced video card. I'm getting a slide show in either case but the visuals are stunning when that video card is doing what it is supposed to do.

Have you tried creating a graphic card profile for second life to adjust the image quality to performance instead of quality? That may help a little.

Also if you have sli on in your advanced profile area on nforce (not where it says inable sli), I noticed SL will often not use both of the video cards until you set up the profile to do SLI. Again this is a profile issue.

If you do not have two video cards try turning SLI off when you play second life (or again enable - or in this case disable - it in a profile).

I personally had an issue with the AGP turning on slowing down SL until I created the second life profile. I left most things default but I added a few things, but leaving most at the defaults (I can tell you what I turned on or off here if you like).

My system is Athalon 64 bit dual core 3600+, 2 Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT PCI-Express, and 2 gig of ram. It just may be the combo that does it, no clue.

I explained the profile thing here to another user: /111/d8/82514/1.html#post848304

As with the other person feel free to PM me if you have any difficulty setting up the profile and I'll help how I can.

Ok, sumpthin wierd just happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled SL from the downloads website and now I am getting the same error. I go onto SL and I find that I am running on both processors and it seems to be working as it should. Usually my avatar is flopping around when I'm on two so I have to set affinity to a single processor. Changing AGP on or off still makes no difference though, perhaps it isn't related?

Dunno, that does seem a bit strange.

Well the error went away when I upgraded to the latest drivers from Nvidia so I think it was, in my case, a problem with the order in which SL was loaded in. It shouldn't come up with the error at all but it seems to be a minor glitch.
