My friend just bought a new graphic card so she could play the game.

The problem was that before she didnt have a 32 bit card, Now she does.

When she tries to play the game she gets an error message saying it needs to be 32 bit. But it is..

Anyway to fix this?

What might the cause be?

should she reinstall the card? maybe needs to update new drivers, etc?

Most likely, the Windows desktop settings were not set for 32 bit color. To fix this:

Right click on desktop (assuming you are running Windows).
Pick "Properties"
Pick "Settings" tab.
Click "Color Quality" pulldown and reset it for 32 bit.
Click "Ok".

I think she`s on Windows XP pro.

I sent her the link to this thread so hopefully that is the case and it works.

Thanks

Here's the thing - when I check my settings I'm on 32 bit

When I try to OPEN SL, SL is changing it to 8 BIT! then I get the error message telling me to switch it to 32...I click "ok"... I go to change it to 32 and it's already ON 32! The only time it ISN'T on 32 is when I try to open SL...then it changes to 8

Why is opening SL changing it to 8???

EDIT: Sorry. Did not know issue was fixed until after post was made. I will leave up what I posted if that is ok?

Sounds as if you may have a profile issue with your video card. Then it could be your driver.

Make positive you have XP and not an XP pro driver, I've had and issue with this myself except I didn't install the pro driver and I have xp pro.

Next.

Right click on your desktop and go to display.

One there go to settings, then click on the advanced menu.

If your drivers are installed for your card you should have a nvidia (or nforce) tab. Click on it and some menus should come up.

Once there go to performance and quality settings. Make sure your on global default and restore it to defaults if you can (if not uninstall and reinstall your driver..nvidia has this on their site, but if you cannot find it PM me and I'll be happy to explain how).

If the above doesn't work, try to make a profile for second life.

Add profile. Then once the menu comes up go to browse and find secondlife.exe in the program files directory where you installed it. Click ok or open whichever is on it.

Once you've done that scroll down to secondlife.exe and make sure its checked. Name the profiles secondlife at the top, then click Ok.

Once back in the profile manager it should say secondlife.exe.

Go to advanced settings. Once here its best to use default for everything except image settings. First put it on performance then check second life (keep the window open), if that doesn't help put it on quality (I don't recommend this as it will cause the program to drag, but sometimes it cannot be helped).

Once you've changed the settings on the profile how you want and that they work (if it works) change it back to global settings (it will automaticly bring up secondlife's profile when secondlife is launched).

If all goes well it should run properly, and later you can read up on the individual settings on the profile to get SL to run faster or slower depending. Different cards offer different settings so I cannot tell you what yours does or doesn't do as I have only had a 5600 AGP before and now have two 7800 GT PCI Express which gets into a different ball game.

As I have said before if you have any difficulties with this PM me and I will assist you as well as I can, I'll even take screenshots for you if that will help.

Hope all goes well.

Definitely leave it up so if others have the problem it can help them in the future!

But she got it to work. So yay

Wow thank you anyway - it was actually something like that that fixed it (I say something because I wasn't sure what I was clicking when I was clicking it but it was on the nvidia settings that fixed it)

And yeah, I will read up on them individual settings on the profile to see if I can get it to run faster. Thanks so much!
