unable to connect

im running windows XP and have not had any problems connecting......til this morning...receiving message....Unable to connect to second life. Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong....did reinstall...cleaned cache..rebooted whole puter and still getting same message..any ideas?

No clue, but suddenly having same problem since this morning...never had connection problems before...

Im having the same problem. I was flying acros a sim then everything locked up, then when i tried to log in again it gave me that same message!

I'm wondering if these problems aren't related to Windows XP's System Restore function? It's possible that after a crash, Windows decided to 'rollback' to 1.7.4.

I would try disabling it (Start > Control Panel > System > System Restore) and then reinstall 1.7.5.

I haven't been able to get into SL all day. I downloaded the update and went to sign in as always and was a no go. Been trying all day same thing. Hubby signed in no problems but when he logged out and back in he can't get in either. I use XP..and no..there's no rollback issue. I have also updated all my drivers and have all the updated anti visrus and cleared my cache and rebooted. I called SL support line and of course. no call back. I simply think its the same old same old..SL did it again. Another update that fixed what wasn't broken and broke more then it fixed. Typical.

It seems that every time I want to get back in, I have to reboot my pc....

Never had any problems with SL till latest patch.

i have been having the same problem. i sent tech support an e-mail, and they said it was because i don't have an nvidia or ATI graphics card.

So we could all sign in once before and now we suddenly cant? Thats silly. I was able to get on last night and I tried again today and no go. I even restarted my compupter and it refuses to still not let me on.

weekends are fun arent they, usually clogs up login server , usually come in "eventually"

It's not the weekend. It just began on my girlfriend's computer as well and she's never had a problem connecting before. I have no problem getting on with my laptop. Something tells me this is related to the most recent update and its amazing ability to "now accurately detect hardware and adjust settings accordingly." Mmhmm...

I am also recieving the Can't connect message since the last update. Tried Reinstalling and that did not correct the issue.

The 1.7.2(5) update fixed a problem where we were not accurately detecting the graphics hardware, and therefore not optimizing Second Life's settings. This caused many people with slower hardware to have settings which *decreased* performance.

While the update has fixed the problem some users had, it seems that it has indeed caused another -- albeit one which may have existed for some users with past versions. The behavior of the 1.7.2(5) client seems to have caused some anti-virus/firewall programs to think that Second Life is an attack on your computer, preventing a connection to our servers.

The workaround for this is to go into the list of approved applications for your anti-virus/firewall program and add the "Second Life.exe" application to that list permanently. Please try this and see if it resolves the problem.

I'm having the same issues as above, and its certainly not a virus checker causing the issue. All ports are open.
I've checked SecondLife.log. It doesn't appear to happen at any given point. the only apparent error is a missing "filestartup.tga" or something similar. I've reinstalled multiple times.
As people have mentioned, rebooting my pc does occasionally seem to solve it (but not every time)

absolutely great. no sooner had i finished fixing my 255 prim luger that i decide " lets log out and work on textures!". now after many attempts to log back in i'm greeted by "login failed".the luger is now waiting about 600m up in sandbox island with me unable to link it back together or to do anything at all =/

Me either... how long does this usually take? This game always crashes when I have a day off.... of course it also always crashes period.

L have no problem logging into SL, but then I sit there with the message SL mat appear frozen.... please wait so far I've waited 25 minutes

I logged out at 1 am nothing was wrong..after 6 failed log in attempts (yes i am persistant) i still cannot get into Second Life.

I also posted a message up at the top here of the forums in hotline to Linden...lets hope there is someone there to read our posts.

WTF I can't get in either, and I know others are in there! I pay way too much to be getting booted all the time !

There were reports of many login problems earlier today, which appear to have cleared up in the last hour. We are investigating the problem now -- please post here if you continue to have issues logging in.

I'm still having problems logging in. It seems to be a random 1/20 chance when I get through. I have had no problems logging into SL for over a year now, aside from the times when it was due to servers down, technical problems with the log in server etc. All of my fairly high spec machines seem to be having problems since this latest version that is "correctly" detecting hardware now. Hope that gives a bit more insight and this is able to be resolved soon.

Also, if I minimize SL, when I am able to get in, it is unable to restore the data and everything remains black.
