The ones you listed are likely going to suffer the same problem. An Nvidia 5500 would work just fine, ideal for your CPU and motherboard. Problem is, if you intend to upgrade the computer soon you will have a new card you used for a couple months that ended up in a closet. If you can find a cheap one, maybe used or on discount then it won't be too bad but most retail outlets are still wanting $130 for the things and they are fast approaching doorstop/fishwieght status. The ATI 9600 is listed as being AGP 2.0 compliant and should work better than the others you listed but you run the risk of having SL constantly crashing. Many people have problems with the ATI on SL, some dodge the bullet and have no problems at all. I have an ATI 9800 AIW collecting dust because it doesn't work with SL worth beans. It will, however work great for just about everything else. You can try the 9600 and if it doesn't crash every 30 minutes in SL then you lucked out, if not then you have a pretty nice backup computer when you get your new one.

From: Kathmandu Gilman An Nvidia 5500 would work just fine Sounds like a great lead. I'm thinking of keeping this PC anyway so this could be good. Thanks again for the advice.

Graphics card memory

Hi,
just got a new nVidia 6600GT wiht 128MB RAM (haven't installed it yet). Anyone knows if the new client due to be released on 25th will benefit from more memory on the graphics card ?
From the Announcements forum: * Texture Cache Size setting in Preferences > Advanced Graphics has been deprecated in favor of Graphics Card Memory
Should I upgrade to a 256MB card before I install it?

Should I upgrade to a 256MB card before I install it? Nah just install it. Basicly it adjusts where the cache goes: system memory or video memory. 128 is a good amount for any card.

Highest used vid memory i ever seen in SL is 98mb, on a 256mb vid card, so what that vid option do i dont know, guess it keeps textures incase you run out of ram?.
-.- doesnt explain why i can go to heaviest places in SL max everything and it never go over 100mb vid card memory use tho.

Well, my entire 2000+ porn collecton fits quite nicely on a CD so 100mb of textures is an awful lot of textures and with 160 meter view you may not ever see 100 mb worth of textures except at a mega bling mall or somesuch. I did see 120mb on my 512 card near the Welcome area once but it rarely goes over 60mb.
