Panda Platinum 2005 firewall compatibility

Forgive my shameless ignorance, but is anyone out there running Panda Platinum 2005, and if so, know how to set the firewall to it's compatible with Second Life?

Currently I have to disable it to get into SL. I've tinkered with my firewall settings (as hinted by the support wiki) in vain. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It is probably just a matter of opening the correct ports. Any firewall, if configured correctly should would seamlessly with Second Life. I found a post by Mark Linden that details what you should have open. The ooey goodness is listed below:

Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12034/UDP, 12036/UDP, and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firwall to allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic.

Hope that helps.

What kind of name is "Panda Platinum"? It sounds like a condom for animals.

And slightly off-topic, but why do people use firewalls other than the Windows one?

...Hrm, probably because up until WindowsXP, the MS Firewall sucked. :-P When I lived in Seattle, even my friends at Microsoft would admit it. Nowadays its better; but a firewall on your own computer is always a small bit less protection than an external solution - because an external machine means one more system to hack through before they even "see" your machine.

The good news is that these days, most of the little "Home Routers" you can buy for DSL/Cable-Modem sharing from companies like Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc. have built in Firewalling and NAT (which effectively "hides" your machine from the outside - anyone "looking" at your network would only see the Router, and nothing beyond it would appear to exist). So that's your extra layer of protection right there, for most broadband users.

If you are on a BroadBand connection and don't have a NAT-enabled router/gateway, your machine is essentially a direct part of the Internet - and you're sitting out in the wind just like any website or server that hackers might hit. You really should be running some good Firewall Software - at least the latest WindowsXP Firewall (make sure you get all the latest MS patches and updates); and if you don't or can't run the XP Firewall, then get a good one like Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm - which is free for individual use (and there are upgraded versions if you want to pay $$).

Take care,

heh heh:D
Maybe they should redesign their logo...

Originally I was put off by the name myself, but I was getting nowhere with my Norton 2004 internet security programs so I switched over to this after some friends recommended it. Much better at finding (and getting rid of) trouble than the Norton ('04) stuff. At least for me.

Thanks for checking.
Actually I was out late last night and didn't get to try it yet.
Will try it later tonight.

Believe it or not, I went into my settings to check the ports, found an unrelated setting I hadn't touched before, changed that, and it solved the problem. Still, I'm keeping a copy of your port info on hand for future reference. Thanks, Pete!

I knew it was from Spain but didn't know about the crappy part. ;)
To give 'em credit, their antivirus progrom works way better than Norton 2004 (which was one hassle after another). Some coworkers had similar experiances. Maybe they're getting better at what they do (while Norton has gotten worse?)

I endorse anything that blocks Pandastrong Fairplay from getting onto the Internet.

Dude, then be a little proactive and get me a date or something. I have just been bachelorized.
