I have noticed in the past three days or so, every since the last upgrade, that upon signing in to SL it is taking a very long time for things to rezz up, even in my house. An awful lot of grey or lack of detail. It is taking as long as 3 to 5 minutes before I get the full rezz. Once it is up it looks absolutely fantastic. The best of I have seen since I have been in SL; however, it does take a long time to get there. I have also noticed I have had a lot more crashes than before. No use going into my system since it well exceeds the minimum specification by a long shot (Super system).

George, I've moved this to Technical Issues, the right place where it can be discussed further. Also please take a look at some other threads here to see if they relate to your problems.
There was a previous bug where the cache would not store things correctly--this should have been fixed now. Please check that your cache setting is 500MB or 1000MB and experiment some more. You can contact support@secondlife.com or call support as well. _____________________

There was a previous bug where the cache would not store things correctly--this should have been fixed now. You're kidding right ? This would be "the bug" that causes textures to de-rez and re-load before my eyes for no reason ? or re-load in my home sky box every time I log on ? or maybe the one that means everytime another av changes a skin or item of clothing I'm trying to work on, I might still be waiting half an hour later for it to rez properly just to see the changes I've made ? I have a similar system to you Torley. No lag, no packet loss, good ping times, and in my sky box virtually NO network activity, but the texture caching / updating / interest list has been borked since 1.7 and it seems to be getting worse not better. Perhaps I'm lucky, in most other respects SL is running very well for me, but the texture issues are driving me to despair. The cache & interest list are clearly not working properly in the client, and the asset server(s) appear not to be sending data in a complete or timely fashion. |

Hi Torley

Torley, I have tried just about everything. My cache is set at 500, I have one of the top of the line Dell systems they have which far exceeds the minimum requirements for SL and it was working sort of good before this last update, but now everytime I go to a place with a lot of textures it just sets there in a grey mode and takes forever to rezz up. My DSL is running at better than 1.5 gigs up and down. I have cleared my cache at preferences, did a total clean up on the system, defragged, the whole works, still it is extremely slow on rezzing. It worked pretty good until 1.7 hit, it has steadly increased in rezzing time ever since then. Not sure what to do next.

I see much faster effects and a heck of a lot less lag with this new machine but rezzing remains delayed or never quite happens

I am experiencing the same also and and so are ALOT of other peeple. I overhear constant complaining about the rez issues (esp avies not rezzing ... you see their attachments but not the actual avie). I also have a high-end machine - the rez issues seems to be getting worse over time.

SL's rendering time and texture loading are so pitiful more me now, no one atarting fresh and seeing things the way they work for me would stay. It's just inertia and lack of competition keeping me here.
Objects render so slow, and in such an erratic manner. Farther off objects render before closer objects, one side of a road will render but not the other, roads don't render till after they are behind you, buildings vanish as you fly towards them. The cache doesn't seem t work. _____________________

Cache clearly isn't being looked at between logins. I may as well clear my cache and start fresh every time I log in, because it sure isn't bothering to look at my cache when I log in.
I log in, in my kitchen of my home, and the prims for everything there takes ten minutes or more to rez, and even longer to get textures. I move to my skybox, wait for everything to rez, and log off. I log in, and even in the skybox it still takes several minutes to re-load those textures, which SHOULD be in my cache already! And my avatar is STILL invisible, showing only my attachments, for far too long, and takes longer after that to rez all her textures. Now I know I don't have a high-performance video card, like some of these folks. But the performance on the texture rezzing and now the avatar rezzing have been going straight into the toilet for the last several releases in a row, worse every time. I have seen NO indication of any improvements on cache issues in the last 4 or 5 releases. None at all since 1.7 or so. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I have seen the texture rez problem with the windows client on wine, too. But it instantly went away when I used the 1.9 Linux native alpha client. Maybe this is something to look at.

I guess I'll tag along here also since I'm looking for a solution here... I have a high performance system, good network, live in the SF Bay Area - I guess that's near the servers, and my gf and I are also having these problems and we're trying all the recommended solutions, clear cache etc..
We're new to the world, so my gf likes to spend a lot of time shopping. It seems like we spend the majority of the time we have available standing in front of things waiting for them to appear. Her clothes never seem to rez completly maybe 85%. I can kind of make out what its supposed to look like, but it never really appears. Not all of the time, but most of the time. Sometimes her skirt will rez but not her top, or half her hair, or something like that. This is not helping get her involved in the world, when we spend 15-20 mins standing in front of a display for clothes, then it finally appears, and she buys it, and then she puts it on and says, "How's it look honey?" and I have to say, uhh... maybe we give it another 10 mins and we'll see... " she is not as patient as I am. Frankly, its getting to be a pain in the ass. ![]() |

I am joining in on this, but its no new issue with me, my clothing takes up to 25 min to rez, looking at others takes about the same for me to see if they actualy changed or not. Well thats if they arent grey for 20 min to begin with.

Well thats if they arent grey for 20 min to begin with. And so do I. I have very nice system... lots of memory... good graphic card... 12Mb ASDL line (with almost no overbooking <---- I pay a lot for that), but since the latest up I think rezzing is much slower as it was. These problems are getting very old and it's time to focus on fixing whatever the hell broke on this last update and the one before and the one before and... I don't know a single person who is not having these problems. Regardless of how many 'actual' users there are in SL, there are alot more on at one time than there was a year ago. I remember the Log-a-thons and how people could barely move or rez when they did this av stress test. Were any upgrades done to the hardware at LL to handle all of us? Or is LL just worried about how many people they can get and not how the system will handle it?
We need these serious issues addressed and worked on before things like fancy arrows in our inventory and editing appearance text that no one gives a damn about... _____________________

Not to confuse bugs--but there is another avatar-centric one I am currently experiencing which you may wish to look at, which sounds similar to some descriptions here.
Please have a look at the "invisible avatar" thread:The telltale sign is commonly the "downloading clothing" message at login. * Downloading clothing message, and temporarily invisible avatar, when logging into 1.9.0 from Karen Linden's latest Known Issues posting. Chime in that thread if that's what you've got, and share your personal experiences! If there's another cache bug that's come up--please use HELP menu ---> REPORT BUG inworld and get that valuable info sent. _____________________

I've definitely got that invisible avatar thing. EVERY time I log in, I get the temporarily invisible clothes.
Also, some clothing textures NEVER rez for me. Clearing the cache and relogging may or may not help. |
