From: Candide LeMay LL techies don't even read the scripters mailing list which is very very low volume (or if they read it they don't answer). Incidentally, I can join your non-complaining camp as I have tiered down today, sold the land and cancelled rentals. SL isn't that bad if you don't pay anything or don't try to do anything with it I did the same as you today, finished selling all my land and tiered down to basic. I have given up waiting for improvements to come... I pity all those newbies wasting their money in a sinking boat...

Eep's findings are correct. This issue is on the list, but I do not have a time frame for when it might be addressed.

From: Shack Dougall It's difficult to get a handle on, but it is definitely affected by draw distance and by client FPS. Possibly by drivers and end hardware. I've had situations where I was at 128m draw and maybe 18FPS and couldn't see all my particles. But if I dropped the draw to 96m, the particles were fine, even though my FPS didn't change. If there's another particle emitter in draw distance it gets run... even if the particles never get close enough to see. If there was a heavy emitter at 100m you'd see exactly that result.
