edit problems since upgrade

First of all i have no problems rezzing and editing my objects. however since the upgrade I cannot now edit my partners objects (or that of friends) even though have been granted rights to do so.

OK what happens..... click on the object and select edit... first of all this normally takes two attempts to get the movement arrows to appear. I can now move the object however if I try to select "stretch" or any of the other options I then drop out of edit mode. When then click on the item again i can see the stretch points but obviously disappear when click on edit again.

After talking to Mia Linden about this in Live Help I upgraded the drivers for my graphics card (GeForce 5600) which, while improving the picture, done nothing to help my situation.

This is the same whether I am at home location (owned by partner but shared to group) or in sandbox and have not met anyone with the same problem yet.

Now for the real cruncher......... it's the same on my laptop too!

Any ideas or suggestions?

If you need to know any other details please ask as am more than willing to help as really need this fixing lol.

Thanks in advance

Hey John, I've not personally investigated this yet. But it sounds like it may be a bug--are your two computers on the same network connection, and is this affecting anyone else you know? In any case, I'm going to move this to Technical Issues in hopes there'll be more discussion and info.

I'll be watching for updates. And if someone else mentions the same thing, I'll go "Aha! I remember when John Margetts brought this up."

I reported this as a bug yesterday. What happens to me, is that I can rez and build new items alright, but when I try to go back to edit my older builds, some of which I have deeded to a group I am an officer of, I can't edit them anymore. I don't even see the details in the "General" tab, let alone anything else. One of the cottages in my village has moved, but I can't do anything about it, until my business partner gets his comp running and logs in to move it :/

I do get a short glimpse of the tabs if I "attack" one of the older builds when I still have the edit open from a recent creation, but when I try to do something with it, it goes blank too. It's annoying and my builds are at a standstill now. This has been going on for a cpl of days now, and I don't think it's got anything to do with my graphics card...

I am getting the same problem as the person posting right above me, as well as the textures no longer aligning right and I select one object and it moves something else nearby too, or selectes it when I single point click select only one thing... I have building forever so I know what I am doing this problem did not happen until that last update.

Although this worked for me to start with it seems it is a reoccuring problem.....

to date have uninstalled/installed 5 times to maintain use of edit facility....

looks like am still looking for a solution from the Lindens on this!

I did as you suggested, once more, just before the last update and uninstalled, and re-installed SL, installing it right away with the new update, and it worked for me. I was so happy, but still aware that this might all be just a dream and I would wake up to the harsh reality at some point.

Now, since you report of the continuing problem... I'm afraid to log in, if my dreams have been shattered too :( I do hope LL can work this out. Torley was looking for detailled re-inactment (or whatever the word was) in another thread that she has bookmarked, trying to recreate the bug herself. Please contribute to that, if you have detailled steps on what's happening. I do hope they'll fix it!!

I think I can solve the problems that all of you who've posted here describe. You probably have the option "Select only my objects" checked in the Tools menu. If that's checked, uncheck it... it will usually cause SL to act like it's not listening to you whenever you click on someone else's object in edit. Sometimes you can "sneak up" on objects while already in edit mode, but if you try to do anything to them, they unselect.

I've seen this problem so often, where someone forgets they've turned this option on, or worse yet, they accidentally turn it on through a stray mouseclick in the tools menu. I remember the first time it happened to me, I was really confused and couldn't figure out what was wrong with SL, and relogging didn't fix it. I think we need some kind of obvious indication that this option is on, or at the very least, it should default to off when we restart SL.

Incidentally, completely wiping the SL directory and reinstalling would fix this problem because it'd nuke the settings.ini file, where this setting is stored.

Now that I think about it, I went to a class where we were asked to check the "Select only my objects", and I didn't know any better to un-check it afterwards, and actually completely forgot it. Thank you for bringing that up! I'm sure to be aware of it next time!

Right, it happens all the time. Without any kind of feedback about why selecting other people's objects isn't working, you hardly have a snowball's chance in hell of figuring out what's wrong. I think that makes this a UI problem.
