Dual 1.8 G5 1GB
w/ 10.3.5

plus an after-market ATI Radeon 9800 SE 256meg (purchased with the ill-gotten profits of land speculation and the flagrant exploitation of the bourgeoisie. ;-)

I still run it on my PC for the most part, but when I'm away from home I play on my Powerbook.

Runs pretty well, all things considered (under min specs).

I got my Pb in Apr 03 (after being in SL on my PC since Jan 03) and went "Yippee!" when SL came out with the Mac client in Nov 03, choppy or not.

Hoping to move to a G5 desktop soon.

Mac G4 dual 1.5. I hate PCs. Yuch! STAMP STAMP STAMP.

We've just got a G5 dual 2.5 at work, and it rocks. You can't even hear the fans going round. I've quietly installed SL on it. heheheh

We're Mac lovers too. G5 dual. And Linux, too. When will SL for Linux arrive?
Microsoft sucks.

Another one here (wave !)

'Nimue', my beautiful graphite G4 Power Mac with Sonnet 1.25 Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM and Radeon 8500

Running SL 'with a little difficulty' on 1.5

And I want to upgrade her to an 'ugly' G5 Power Mac - such is progress I suppose but still I can't wait to get the extra horsepower :) (I'm sure I'll warm to the looks !)

iMac G5, Linux, & "beauty"

Merwan, the new iMac G5 looks awesome! Could be my next purchase, if the planets align. It appears to have the great price/performance ratio that I've been waiting for. I'd love to be running SL on a more qualified machine than my aging TiBook.

Zimbelstern, I spoke in-world with someone who told me that SL servers run on Linux, & that he himself runs some kind of a Linux client that works great. If you haven't already done so, check the forums for Linux users, you may get lucky. :)

Dee, sorry you're not pleased with Apple's latest case designs. I find different peoples' opinions on aesthetics amusing. I myself, happen to like Apple's new "industrial" brushed metal look a bit better than the previous plastic, which looks great also. Now that the new monitors are aluminum, I'd also like to see the keyboard & mouse get a similar "face lift." Although I do have to admit, I would welcome curvy black cases back again, like the G3 PowerBooks & the 20th Anniversary Mac had. But then again, that's just my opinion. ;)

Hi Cosmo

I'm just having a bit of difficulty adjusting to the all-out metal look of the G5 tower that's all - 'ugly' was too strong a word really and I take it back - it looks very svelte and impressive I must say, but I guess I'll just miss the swoopy curves of my dear old G4. Sure I'll get used to it - it is a very subjective (and emotive) sort of subject, particularly for us Mac users. It's the front panel and offset ports that bug me the most aesthetically.

Now comparing it to the average PC case design however is another kettle of fish :) I love the G5 ! - see how relative these things are lol.

I kinda miss the Mac sup-topic forum that used to exist under "Technical Issues." :(

Any more Mac user shout outs?

Wow, this thread was quite old !

Yes please re-instate the Mac sub topic forum LL !

Now running SL on a be-yoo-tiful dual 2.5Ghz G5, 2Gb RAM, 6800 Ultra GPU, now named 'Isis', a suitably weighty name I think

Compared to my old G4 - vrooooom, what lag ? ..........

Just waiting for 'em to fix the bug (presumably relating to the 6800) which sends my textures screwy if my av is directly in contact with any attachments worn by myself or (ahem) anyone else :D

I have a P4 Toshiba laptop and a 12inch Powerbook.... Oddly enough I prefer the Powerbook for SL.

17" PowerBook G4 1Ghz with 1G & Nvidia Geforce 4 mx. Would love a nice new dual 3 Ghz G5 to run SL.

Yep, Mac here too.

G4-500 (upgraded to 1.2GHz), 1G Ram, Radeon 8500. SL seems pretty slow, 2 FPS.. dang!

Hi Teddy - I sympathise with you there - I've just upgraded from almost identical system specs where I suffered similarly stodgy performance. Slow interface too, right ? Nothing short of a system upgrade fixed it for me I'm afraid, but hang in there :)

Has there ever been a Mac users get together in-world ?

It would be a good chance to chat about stuff 'face to face' - technical issues, either with SL on the Mac in particular or more generally, news and views, general Mac loving enthusiasm, whatever...

Just wondered....... :)
