Hi all, Is anyone else getting packet loss since this last update? I use to get it once and a while for a few seconds, but now I get it all the time. It varies from 0.0% for a few seconds to 3.1% and everything in between. I never had this before. I haven't seen it affect my actions in world yet (slow downs, trouble rezing items etc), but it is distrubing to say the least.

Update: it was worse than it was before. I am now seeing it peak at 15.9% at times doing nothing but standing in place.
Update2: It appears it was a few sims I was in, but not all of them. Guess it is time to file reports on those sims. Strange it was fine previous to the update yesterday.

OMG Packet Loss out of control!
06-15-2006 08:55
Yep, recently getting wild spikes in packet loss in various sims. Also, others with me (they log on in another U.S. time zone) were also experiencing similar packet loss spikes. I've been crashing frequently, in crowded clubs as well as low lag sims staring out to the edge where nothing is at all. Wonder if the servers are maxed out sending all the new SL updates?

At least I am not the only one this is happening to. I haven't been crashing, but then I haven't been in crowded areas for a perlonged period of time either. Can't be a good sign regardless.

Yes, pre-update, I didn't get as much packet loss as I get now, and I know it's not my connection, because I dj and that's not affected, just SL shows the packet loss since the updates.. it isn't always in all sims, but some.

I thought my ISP was just having issues but then the other night noticed it in middle of the night. I ran a continuous ping to a web site with 0 packet loss but then SL was reporting tons even though I couldn't find any reason at the time (I didn't run a ping to the SL servers).
I have meant to troubleshoot it further but hadn't yet, it seems that the vast majority of the sims I visit I get substantial packet loss all the time, I halved+ my bandwidth and the problem continued. This problem is present on all three of my computers. A laptop and two desktops.
Another issue I have been experiencing for the last week at least is on two of my machines the bandwidth used will drop to 0 even though there doesn't appear to be any loss at that second and the entire world is still a big gray blob, from where textures/objects haven't downloaded yet. Sometimes TPing in and out of the sim will fix it, other times it just continues to stall out. This seems to happen in bursts, it'll happen for awhile then stop but with the packet loss issue listed above they could all be related.

Packet Loss and Traceroute

Run a Traceroute back to the SL servers in San Fran. I bet you get clean, fast hops until you reach the west coast and the LL servers.....

Rolling resets fix problem?
06-17-2006 05:10
Last night they did a rolling reset - and this morning I have 0% packet loss, and things are really snappy.
To whomever may have found and fixed the problem - I want to have your baby.

Yes this was great....for a few hours. Then last night I started getting it again (in some sims but not others, just like before). Has anyone else?

I'm having packet loss issues as well, but mine don't seem to go above 11%.

I should mention that my packet loss is still (at this point anyway) much less after the reset the other night/day (depending on which side of the world you are on). But there is some. Strange as right after the reset it was fine in all the sims I went to. Then about 15 hours or so later it started to creap back in.
