I don't know if this will help anyone but I have been using my Presario R3340 notebook with SL for 1 1/2 years now and have never crashed! It has a nice sharp picture and the lag is only what is to be expected when I go into a crowded area.

I am not a computer person but here are my system stats taken from the SL Help function: CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ (798 Mhz) Memory: 511 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce4 440 Go 64M/AGP/SSE2/3DNOW! OpenGL Version: 1.5.3

Maybe I just got lucky or something but SL has always run flawlessly for me on my little notebook.

My laptop works

I'm running an IBM ThinkPad, and I have no problems.

I do have all graphic settings low, and fps is poor, but no crashes.

Machine spec:
CPU: Intel PIII 1600 Mhz
OS: XP Pro SP2
Memory: 768Mb
Graphics card: Intel 855GM
Hard Dive: 40Gb

contected via internal centrino wireless to home router on ADSL 2Mbs

This is not even close to a top end machine, and is only used when my desktop is otherwise engaged. All I did for 1.10 was install the latest drivers for the graphics card, (which is unsupported by sl)

Logged in now and getting 7.2 fps in an otherwise deserted sim. I can't funtion anywhere busy, but it doesn't crash as much as my desktop - which does have a supported Nvidia graphics card. (probably because I have none of the pretty graphics options turned on)

I have to concur with general consensus. am running Toshiba A30 Satelite with 256RAM, incompatible intel (R) graphics card, and more... SL worked fine until the update.... i am nearly in tears as the system crash is bad i have to pull out the battery because everything (including task manager) freezes.

I would like advice from the Lindens as to whether these problems are generic to laptops/notebooks and whether there is maybe some buffer or program that could be created to provide an interlink for notebooks.

all my desktop SL friends do not have the same probs.

aslo, i need to have a laptop for work and buying a desktop just to run SL is too expensive.

Could a linden possibly post a laptop caompatible spec (incl graphics card, brand of laptop, etc,) that is known and proven so all of us laptop ppl can know what to buy.

Love SL too much not to make hardwar coices based on compatibility

Cheers

router firmware update
06-11-2006 17:47
Since the latest version of the Game came out, I have been attempting to run on both my "old" Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop and my "new" Dell xps 400 desktop.

One thing I hadn't considered was, that in all this actual system "fixing", my ROUTER also may need a firmware update!!! So I checked, and sure enough, Linksys had an update waiting.

I know I can't expect Second Life to work on my laptop anymore, be it wired or wireless, because I have an old graphics card.

Perhaps, though, a router upgrade is in order and may help someone else :D

PS My Dell XPS desktop runs the game like a charm now, so at least THAT is working :)

SL is running for me quite well on the following hardware:

Acer Extensa 4100 Laptop

1,6GHz Pentium M
512Gb RAM
ATI x600

Acer Aspire 3020 Laptop

Mobile AMD Sempron 3100+ 1,8GHz
512Gb RAM
ATI x600

I installed the OMEGA drivers (omegadrivers.net) on the Extensa. Result: Rippled Water :-D and a little better performance.

FPS:
Ground level (Southsea Island Sim) 15-20fps

Both Acers run SL very stable with rare crashes. (I observe a higher temperature on the surface of the machines since the 1.10 update, so crashes might be connected to that)

I, too, am having absolutely no problems running SL on my laptop (via a wireless connection, to boot). Specs:

Dell Inspiron 9200
1G RAM
60G hdd + 200G external hdd
ATI Mobility 9700 with latest Omega Drivers
Netgear WGU624 Wireless Router
Bellsouth Fastaccess 3.0 (the weakest link in the entire setup)
Pretty much all the graphics settings in SL turned UP as high as they can go, with little to no (noticable) degradation in performance

Although the laptop was discontinued shortly after purchase (Dell has a very short cycle for its laptop models), Dell is still pretty good about keeping drivers up-to-date, with the exception of graphics (drivers from the ATI site do not even recognize my ATI card, which is pretty typical for laptops) - I have been using Omega Drivers for a couple of years with nary a hitch.

As a whole I have been extremely pleased with the 9200's performance. The weight is a bit much, but I did purchase as a "desktop replacement" (although the desktop is still where it has always been).

I would highly recommend the Omega Drivers (www.omegadrivers.net) for ATI Mobility-based laptops.

Averatec 1.2ghz Celeron w/ 512mb ram running on Windows XP Pro w/ Intel Graphic Extreme graphics card.

Since 1.10 I had to run on the bare minimum settings and runs alot slower than before. Ver 1.10 is a beast compared to the previous versions ones. It works but I wouldn't want it to be my main computer. Wireless or wired it seems pretty much the same.

Same problem with 1.10, however I'm new.
Running Vaio K45
Adapter Radeon IGP 345M

Issue, login is good.
Graphics on following screen hang.
Program locks up after first key stroke.

For the record, I have a desktop too.
and there everything seems to work fine.

But I prefer the lap,

Any chance of the Developers getting a bug fix.

The "bug" is your case is an incompatible video card, take a look at the system requirements to run SL. Your card is not only listed as unsupported but as incompatible.

This has me worried, has it been resolved yet Claire. I was about to place an order for a new laptop which must be capable of playing SL well. The Dell that you have was top of the list. I considered a Macbook Pro as a possibility also but there seems to be issues from that camp too. Since 1.10 my Powerbook G4 and P4 based Toshiba laptops have been unplayable. Are there any other alternatives.

what issues on the Mac? I play exclusively on my MacBook Pro, works like a charm, even right now.
