I'm am also having the same issue. Clearly since we are 3 very different people in 3 very different regions, this is a problem with the game itself and not with us so I'd say we're better off not panicking and just waiting it out.

wait for how long? this is ridiculous..

well I am having no issues internet related other than that. I dont use instant messengers like AOL or MSN though. I submitted a ticket but the funny thing is none of my accounts will login. All do the same thing. I dont have another computer powerful enough to run SL or I would try it on another PC. I tried logging into different regions as well and no help. I have land for sale to me that I need to buy and some for sale I need to provide to someone but cannot do either as I cant login.
I have done everything I can think of and still no response on a trouble ticket. If more than one person is having this issue then Linden's must know something about it or are just completely ignoring it. |

Me, too
09-18-2007 11:27
I've been having the same problem. I went to help island Friday night on another problem, my system crashed while I was there, and I haven't been able to get back in SL since. I keep getting the same error messages you guys are, and it doesn't matter if it's my main premium account or my alt. I put in a trouble ticket Sunday afternoon, and it still comes up as new, so I don't think it's even been looked at...... After reading other posts, I uninstalled SL & temp files, downloaded the update, & reinstalled. Still isn't working. Any ideas, please post.

since you have a premium account, you could contact their support and see if they can suggest anything? you could at least submit a decent ticket...unlike basic account holders

Ticket and support
09-18-2007 14:48
I submitted a ticket on Sunday and it is still in "New" status also. Is there a tech support phone number? All the numbers I can find are for billing support. This is getting me more upset every day. I was supposed to buy a parcel of land next to mine and now it has been sold to someone else. Is there anyone that can help??

Port Blocking?
09-20-2007 10:58
I'm testing SL for my office, and we have a corporate firewall, including a long list of permanently blocked ports. I can login normally from the Wifi Coffee Shop downstairs, but get this error when I'm on the company network. Does anyone know the 'default port' for the client? I could then check this against our list of blocks, try to 'Select Port' in the Network tab of the Preferences to see if that helps. If it does, then it's a port or firewall issue. If not, then ...
Does anyone know the 'default port' for the client? |

Ports
09-20-2007 16:58
I have tried to find these ports as well and check if my router is blocking them since I have no firewall software loaded on my pc. I have set my computer up in the router even as a DMZ and still get this error message. And still no word on my week old support ticket. Even switched out my router. Funny thing this all happened right before last weekend when all that DNS stuff was happening.
Ok another PC on the network is doing the same thing. So, multiple users, multiple PCs, multiple routers all doing the same thing. What's left my ISP?? |

For me, disabling the personal firewall did the trick. Thats weird cos this thingy never interrupted anything and is not even asking me to let the client access the internet... but i can turn this issue on and off by enabling/disabling my firewall.

09-21-2007 00:25
I have my windows firewall disabled and have no other firewall software installed. I built another PC just this evening fresh install of xp, fresh virgin install of sl latest client and the same error.
Llead... the ports SL client uses I have been told are port 443, and ports 12020-13050 UDP and TCP incoming and outgoing |

Talked with ISP
09-21-2007 07:34
Ok I chatted with SL support and they said it had to be my ISP. I called my ISP. They do not block ports and every other test with them tests ok, bypassing router, etc. etc. I am in Texas and my ISP is Windstream. Any others having this problem around my location or have the same ISP? They did admit to having to change DSLAMs around the time this started happening but assured me this would in no way cause this problem and DSLAMs are above and beyond me.

I emailed the campus tech support, and apparently it's their problem...They said that most of the campus is having issues connecting to games or AIM etc. so...this is probably not LLs fault for once.

Ports? or something else?
09-21-2007 08:54
I have my windows firewall disabled and have no other firewall software installed. I built another PC just this evening fresh install of xp, fresh virgin install of sl latest client and the same error. Llead... the ports SL client uses I have been told are port 443, and ports 12020-13050 UDP and TCP incoming and outgoing So, does this mean that the 'Default Port' when the Client connects may be any in that range, or several? In the Preferences > Network tab, the 'Custom Port Connection' only selects 1 port in the 13000 - 13050 range. So far, the only PC sessions I am getting this error are via the corporate network - yesterday in the office and just now at the house through the remote VPN. When I exit the VPN, the connect happens OK. Hmmmmm... |

damned ISP
09-25-2007 20:15
Well this turned out to all be a problem with the ISP but they still wont admit it. I have Windstream DSL and Roadrunner now and everything works fine on the Roadrunner connection and I do not lose packets when I run the WinMTR test. Here are the results and notice the % of lost packets on the Windstream DSL report.

I feel your pain
10-03-2007 06:14
I had some people over at dslreports.com analyze my packets using something called pcap to see exactly what is going on when I try and connect to SL through my dsl provider (my roadrunner connects just fine). They have said that for some reason loadbalancer3.lindenlab.com is refusing your login data when I am connected to my dsl provider.
All my packets are getting through to SL's servers but is being rejected/refused for some reason. So far all SL support has told me is to check firewalls, etc. which obviously I dont have an issue with as I have been troubleshooting this not for almost a month and the same exact configuration works when I plug in my cable modem instead of my dsl modem. They have said that this looks to be 100% the fault of Second Life/Linden not your dsl provider. Essentially SL's SQUID proxy server acting as a load balancer is refusing to forward/accept your request/authentication. They saw the same process rinse/repeat 3x in my pcap capture. I would like to forward your pcap capture along to SL for analysis with but have not heard any response as of yet. |
