I had this happen to me when I was using a system that was not powerful enough. My cpu was getting close to overheating and my RAM was too low.

I believe the crackling is caused by your system having difficulties keeping up with the game.

Next time it happens, go to Task Manager and check the performance of your system. Also, if you can, you may want to monitor your CPU temperature...just to verify if your system is getting taxed by SL.

I had this issue for a long time. Someone suggested that my sound card was going bad. After trying everything I could think to do, I decided to buy a new sound card and it solved the problem.

I had this problem on my old comp. with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2, and sometimes, the crackly sound resulted because there was another instance of Second Life running that hadn't fully quit. Other times, I had to restart entirely. From my previous forum posts on the same topic, seems like other Resis havin' the same problem were on the same--or similar--model of sound card.

I have also been having this problem for 2 months now. However, recently I did notice something. For the past several days, I have had the "texture not loading" problem along with everyone else. When that was happening, my music worked just fine. Now the texture loading problem has been fixed, and my music is crackly again.

I am not very computer savy, but could this possibly be a video card problem instead of sound? I have a Radeon 9200 with the lastest drivers installed.
