1.8.2 (7) VICIOUS building bug

I just don't understand how building - such a fundemental aspect of SL and one that has essentially remained unchanged for so long can be so broken, it's not as if we've been given new features with each release. Great we have rippling water and god knows what else, but our basic tools seem more broken with each release. Disappearing prims, corrupted root prims, unpredictable behaviour of linked prims, floating point errors and now this tabbing error.

Welcome to a world of fantastic rippling water, no builds and thousands of free accounts used increasingly for griefing. I love SL, it was finally a genuinely new and importantly, creative, virtual medium but as time goes on the experience gets less enthralling, captivating or satisfying. Please LL, reconsider your priorities here, this is basic stuff and it needs dealing with, it underpins the whole SL experience for everyone not just builders.

Remember the camera zoom-in (FOV change) reset bug? It took LL about *6* months to fix that one! I tire of LL adding new features without first fixing old/new bugs! BASIC rule in programming: don't add new features without first fixing bugs!

Seriously. This is like sending a brand new car out the door with GPS mapping, cooled and heated seats, leather interior, all that crap, but then the turn signal doesn't actually work when you pull it.

I'm at a complete loss to understand how such a dreadful bug got into a release in the first place. I'm at an even greater loss to understand how a fix is not being delivered ASAP, even in the midst of yet another patch.

What's the newest patch going to do, disable movement keys? Nerf the ability to close windows?

Crazy, aint it? Something so simple and small as a tab order shouldn't be hard to fix, it shouldn't even be broken in the first place. I guess there isn't a test system in place, lot's of software compagnies write down what every button should do and how it should be tested. All what they then have to do is hire a low skilled tester and let him/her walk through all the little tests and see if it works as described.

God yes, this bug is driving me nuts. Of course, it is possible that it's fixed with this patch and it's just not in the release notes. Stuff of that nature has happened before, but it was usually the other way around. Like with 1.8.1, they broke texture changing via script somehow, and it took me teleporting two Lindens over to see the bug to get them to admit anything had been changed, then they insisted that it was in the release notes and that my entire object vanishing briefly when a script changed the texture on one face of one prim was a flaw in my scripting (llTextureOffset() is a flaw now, take note) and that it was my responsibility as a developer to adapt to changes to Second Life. I linked them to their own announcement and they admitted that, oh, it wasn't in the release notes after all. They later admitted it was a bug, but hey, it goes unfixed still, and we're fixing to deploy another patch. I hope that's also an unwritten release note.

So yeah, not everything is in the release notes. I complained to several Lindens about that as well. If we're expected to 'adapt' to Second Life as they say, we need to be told what's being changed.

According to Torley Linden it isn't in there.

Heya Enab! Yeah that bug SUCKS. SOOO annoying. Grrr. The fix isn't making it into 1.8.2.8, but a fix already has been done and is planned to be included in the following update soon after that. (Updates, fast and furious!)

And, I must say, many, many thanx to all the Resis who spoke up about it and sent in bug reports. IT HATH MADE A DIFFERENCE.

LOL, omg well that explains that. I just replaced my keyboard with kind of a cheapy USB keyboard a couple days ago. I thought it was my new keyboard but it was SL that was causing all the problems. I was just about to swap it out with my old one to see if it would fix it. This is a pretty annoying bug I hope they got this bug fix for Feb 1st, crosses fingers.
