I was somewhat disheartened to log in today and see the new ripple effect. Downloaded the client, went into prefs to turn ripple on............I cant - It's ghosted out! I have taken this to mean that my card cannot support ripple due to lack of pixel shaders.

But!

AFAIK my NV GF4 Ti4200 w/ 128 RAM does support pixel shaders! I have games that were made specifically at the time to show off this fact!

Can anyone shed some light on this? o am I just going to have to use this as an excuse to upgrade my machine? :D

Your video card doesn't support OpenGL's Pixel Shader which SL complies with, maybe DirectX 8 (when your card was made), but not this one, you need to upgrade to the next gen at least to get it, either a FX5200 or higher(Nvidia) or a Radeon 9500 or higher (ATI)

SL uses DirectX 9.0c PS the 4200 supports only DirectX 8 PS, so no it won't work with SL.

So use it as an excuse to upgrade :)
