SUBJECT>>> I NEED DESPERATE HELP.. RUTHED AND CANNOT GO INTO APPEARANCE, EXPERIENCE MAJOR CRASHES OR GETS DROPPED FROM INTERNET/ GET LOGGED OFF.

PROBLEM: (with either Second Life 1.18.3, 1.18.4(3) or SL Release Candidate Software First Viewer
1-Persistent Crash on login
2- Ruthed, Frozen or land at coordinates 10,10,10.
3- If a successful log in, Avi is fine for a few seconds, maybe minutes then I freeze again.
4- Avatar walks backwards, into the ground. Cannot go into appearance. Then I get dropped and loose connection with internet.
5- Often get error ”gestures cannot be loaded”
6- I could be on a pose ball and when I stand, I freeze or freeze while Teleporting.
7- Some days are good and most are really bad. Same problem with an Alternate Avi.

TEMPORARY FIXES:

ATTEMPTS MADE TO RESOLVE PROBLEM

1- Ran full hardware diagnostics in my computer. It all passed.
2- Upgraded Ram, from 500 to 2 GB. (Removed the 500MB and installed two GB RAM sticks)
3- Upgraded my video card
4- Reinstalled XP. (Not formatted. this will be the last resort)
5- Installed a Netgear Ethernet PCI card for 1000mbps.
6- Uninstalled SL from the root by running an erase utility and reinstalled it in a different directory.
7- Upgraded all drivers directly from manufacturer (Video, Bios, NIC,)
8- Installed all Windows updates.
9- Ran msconfig and disabled all startup items and disabled all non Microsoft services as well
10- Reset my IP address
11- Removed my firewall and virus protection
12- Ran spyware and also PC Pitstop Optimize.
13- Ran Virus scan, system defrag, and yes system restore also.
14- Called my ISP and they came to my house and found internet signal to be strong

are you on wireless by any chance? Could be a packet issue often found in wireless connections. Is your port open on the firewall? (port forwarding)

Try uninstalling all versions, erase the remaining files after that and reinstall.

Thats about all i can think of that you havent tried already

not sure if your situation is the same as Desmond's (/327/82/223338/1.html), you might want to contact support if not.

Issue Resolved !!!!! Go Demilitarized Zone ... Read On.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!..... I just wanted to thank you again for trying to help me out with my PC last week. I also thought I'd share with you that after trying to rule out everything short of reformatting my drive, it came down to my wireless router. Then, it dawn on me to call my ISP (Comcast) and have them run a test check. In doing so, they suggested I Demilitarize my router by going into the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), usually used by gamers. Sure enough, you guessed it, it worked !!! So, if you have a router in your home network, and have issues with lag, or as in my case being Ruthed, you should seriously consider it by calling your ISP and request it (is FREE). Thank you again for your help!!.. TTFN :))

I hope you have a firewall installed if you're going to forward all incoming traffic to your puter.

Bad advice, never DMZ your PC behind a router. It's like throwing away the router. No protection - your machine is vulnerable. A properly configured router will be invisible to your day-to-day operations. Comcast, heck - any ISP will want you to bypass your router for testing/connectivity issues, but once they are resolved, the firewall/router should be reactivated.

Yes, but DMZ actually means the firewall is SWITCHED OFF. Firewalls usually even have a warning when you try to use the DMZ TELLING you your security is now switched off. And the hardware "firewall" the router itself has isn't a proper firewall at all.
