Possibility to choose the Cache location?

My problem is very simple. My main HDD is an old 3 GB WB drive (for the experts, is a AC13200B drive)... it's really old and slow, so it takes a lot loading/writing stuff from/to cache...

I installed SL on a portable 200 GB drive, that even though is connected to a USB 1.1 port, works way faster than the WD IDE :O

So, my question is... if there's any possibility to choose where SL stores the cache files? If not, could that be implemented on a future release?

Wandeh, a warm welcome to Second Life and the SL Forums! I must say... I haven't seen this question in awhile, but it's quite an old stalwart.

Yes, this can be done! Please have a look at:

Thanks Torley =)

Well, before doing what's explained in the Wiki, I'd like to ask a question about it.

First, my story:

I have games stored in that portable HDD (StepMania, RO) that allow to be played regardless of the computer used.

What I'd like to do, then, is to be able of moving along all my SL folder (cache, if possible my character folder, etc) on that HDD so I can play SL on another (better) comp without having to download it and install it again each time I switch computers...

My question, then, is... is that possible?

Ok, I did exactly what was said in the Wiki, now I have 2 folders, both have the same information in it, both say the same file sizes etc. I presume, my new folder is the one SL will actually use now?

Very usefull, now is there a way to increase the cache size to something like 10gig? :)

Now... how do I get it to use a separate cache for Siva and Agni?

*bump*

I'd like to know if someone else knows some sort of solution for my problem... my HDD has 511 MB free, and after playing a bit, the game froze. So, when I went to check the available space on C:, I had only 9 MB left X.x!

If you have installed sl on the external harddrive and made the link of the cache file to the external drive, that's all you can do. You can of course make a link of your complete user settings directory to your external drive. But actually there isn't much data for your character in your user settings directory, only your name and your password. And you probably already carry this around in your head.
And the settings for graphics etc. can vary from machine to machine anyway, so it is alright to keep them on the local machine.

Leff.
