I figured I would start a thread for those of us that are running SL in Vista B2.
If you can run SL in Vista B2, or have any tips/tricks to getting it work post here.
Running an Athlon 64 system on a Gigabyte iDNA mainboard. Could NOT use the MS supplied video/audio drivers, needed to download Beta nForce and GeForce drivers from nVidias site.
nVidia GeForce 6600GT works with nVidia Drivers (No MS) nVidia GeForce 430chipset (GeForce 6100 onboard graphics) Needed to update to beta Forceware drivers.

From: Gabriel Malaprop If you haven't already noticed three threads down i posted about windows vista /111/7d/112580/1.html why make multpile threads??? only because that person is trying to help. if someone with knowledge on getting the new ati drivers to work on it properly comes in here with suggestions, all the better, cause i know my card is supported. only the driver is confusing SL.

I'm having the smae problem ATI latest catalyst driver for both 32 bit adn 64 version of vista, second life reporting doesn't recognise the card now before some troll says Oh that's cause it's 64bit and SL is 32, save the trolling line, i'm running as my primary os Windows professional 64bit and SL runs just fine under that with the latest ati 64bit drivers for Xp/2k3 x64 this really is a detection problem in SL on it talking to the host's hardware drivers and i have a feeling yes the graphics card people could resolve this in 1 manor but at the same time Linden Labs could resolve it easier by making it talk to the hardware in a diffrent way. as there are engines for games the look much better then SL ever has and they run under vista

Thats what Vista is. Every update will cause problems for a whole slew of programs as they change things. In this case its either the way drivers interact with the OS or how SL detects the hardware. LL has no obligations to support Vista in any way shape or form being not only a Beta OS, but for the most part a pirated OS since I doubt even half the people complaining about SL not working right in Vista are authorized MS beta testers. Same goes for beta graphics drivers wich I use. LL has no reason to support my drivers and thus aren't obligated to make any optimizations for my drivers until its officially released. Sure its good for LL to know there is a problem, but they have no reason to act on them until the final version has been released.

"but for the most part a pirated OS since I doubt even half the people complaining about SL not working right in Vista are authorized MS beta testers" i bet you haven't really thought about that statement when you typed it considering anyone with a .net passport can freely subscribe and download the dvd iso's for 64bit and 32bit vista directly from microsoft, they GIVE you a legit key, and let you use it on up to 10 pc's. so please be a little more kinda before you start pointing fingers at people that don't have MSDN subscriptions. fair point though on beta, but to be honest LL haven't made great moves torwards 64bit windows professional and it's in retail However i think i found some insight, there is a file in the program folder that it compares against from the looks and also the wiki mentions about checking compatability and in this case it maybe ATI that isn't working fully yet One trick to see if your card was compatable as in game and you check the OpenGL renderer. if that's so ATI's own catalyst gave the answer, there's no OpenGL version listed yet for the beta 2 vista driver. at which point hopefully in the future ati will update that =)

If you're not running Vista B2, and you've got nothing to contribute what are you even doing in this thread? If you've got nothing intelligent to contribute, then please stay out. If you just want a flame war, there are many forums on the Internet you can do that where it's actually encouraged.

Windows Vista Beta 2 has been released publically you can now legally download it From Microsoft so quit speaking out of your *** lol.

yeah stop bitching trying blame custmer ati support us now other game companys are creating or already even created patchs to make games work better on beta 2.
I think linden labs owns us we don't own them and to call vista beta 2 crap and not support for another year is wrong and will lose me and all my tier as a custmer and I bet also other over you know compiling 1 or 2 new things into the source code.
Beta 2 is public release and its one the most stable windows os i ever used!
