Reconnecting after a disconnect (Packet loss?)

I've been having chronic disconnects for over a week now. I've basically done everything possible to fix it. Five different antivirus programs, three spyware, packet loss/net congestion/upload and download frequency tests, new modem, new modem cords, different location of computer, unplugged every phone in the house, DNS cache clearing.

It is possible that this is a problem with the wiring in my house. Infact, that was my main target for blame at first. However, as i've noticed, this new discovery points alot more evidence than any of the others. It's still a conspiracy theory, out of frustration, but i thought it'd be worth pursuing.

These disconnects are not only on SecondLife, but a full out DSL connection disconnect. They seem to travel in spurts, with disconnects being at minimal 15 seconds apart with a maximum using consisting of 45 minutes. The lone case, and the longest without a disconnect, was 23 hours a few days ago.

However what i have noticed is the following.
- It will disconnect alot sooner if i am on SecondLife, ultimately detiremining if i disconnect period.
- It will only reconnect, as in browser and web page functionability, if the now useless SecondLife window is closed and logged out. As a case in point reference, after i disconnected while writing this i left the SL window open in the background. As i now try to click "Preview Post", my internet is still down.

Furthermore, my firewall has a very similar "bar system" showing packet loss and internet functionability. What i have noticed is when i have four green bars on my firewall, i tend to have 4 bars of packet loss in SL.

Lately i've been throwing myself at anything that could be an answer to this, and believe me there are/have been alot of possibilities, but im curious if anybody has any ideas at all.

Edit: I totally spaced on my main purpose for this topic. I've also noticed that after the SL window is closed in the case of a disconnect, it takes roughly 1.5 minutes for SL to purge your name from the system allowing you to log on. Is there any in-game feature that will allow you to reconnect after a disconnect without closing the window, thus skipping the purge cycle?

Cheers,
Ace.

Heya Ace, I'm going to move this to Technical Issues to put it in the right place and we'll see if anyone else has any ideas for discussion! Also, you can contact support.

BTW, please give Preview 1.9 a spin if you haven't already... and also, please post if opening the Map screen disconnects you any sooner. Out of curiosity.

Oops, thank you. That totally skipped my mind that "Answers" wasn't the same as Tech Support.

Heres some more info:
Previous uptime with SL closed: 37 minutes without disconnect.
Time before disconnect, in-game, with map open: 29 seconds flat.
Time to reconnect to the internet after SL window closed: 7 seconds.

Re-opened.
Time online, in SL with map closed: 8 minutes.
Once map was opened: 19 seconds before disconnect.
SL background left open for 2 minutes without reconnect.
Time to reconnect after SL window closed: 14 seconds.

I've encountered this only once. I thought it was my dsl connection. SL kicks me out after less than a minute online. Tried relogging in more than a dozen times, and everytime its the same. It does this along with the dsl connection, so theres total loss of connectivity until I shut down and power up the router again. The connection seems fine without SL on.

It appears to be fixed, much thanks to Maxx Mackenzie who posted the solution.
