You'll have to provide more details. Wireless routers can be a problem, but not necessarilly. Please post information about your computer: processor, processor speed, RAM, video card and video memory as well as a more detailed explanation of what is happening (or not happening).

One very important thing is to make sure that you've installed the latest drivers for your video card.

Oh, and what's your network connection type and speed, e.g., cable 5Mps, DSL 1.5Mps, etc.

Could be a firewall that's running on the laptop. Try disabling it temporarilly to see if it helps.

Also, I know it's a pain, but the best way to eliminate the router is to connect the laptop directly to the cable broadband, thus bypassing the router. If that doesn't work, then your root problem is definitely not the router.

You need to figure out what kind of video card is in the laptop. If it's an ATI or ATI Radian Mobility, then the best place to get drivers is http://www.omegadrivers.net, but don't try that until you know for sure that you have an ATI video card.

Run dxdiag and click on the Display tab to get info on your video card.

Start>Run, then type "dxdiag" (without quotes) and press return.

128MB is good. Unfortunately, I don't know much about intel video, but don't use the Omega drivers. They won't help you.

You can check the hp website to see if they have newer drivers available.

I'm out of ideas, but keep posting your progress and someone else will probably pick up the ball.

I found a similar post here and one person reported that disabling their firewall helped, though another person found that to be no help.

For many people, getting connected to SL for the first time is a difficult thing. It was for me, too. So you're not alone, and it's definitely worth the effort.
