When I try to login, frequently the following error message occurs:
Unable to connect to server. Could not resolve domain name: userserver.agni.lindenlab.com Please check your network connection.
Sometimes when I fiddle with my start location and restart game/computer a few times, it will go, but typically I am not able to log on for several hours. My network connection is fine and I don't have any hostile firewalls.
Suggestions? Thank you.

The only suggestion I have is, if you're in Windows (XP, perhaps others), you might try going to Start, Run, and type this: ipconfig /flushdns
This will empty the DNS cache Windows keeps. I had to do this once, at least.

i've was able to log on while disabling firewall and its working for the time being, but i tried the dns flush. just wanted to mention that's start->run, then cmd, then type ipconfig/flushdns hope this works for myself and others. thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the cmd prompt, but it was unable to be executed. I get the same message you did, originally but I have never been able to access Second Life. I can put in my login information and when I click connect, I get that message.
I have disabled my firewall settings, I have been both hard wired and wireless. Nothing works!! I need help. PLEASE
