Biggest impact on SL would be these
Preference/Graphic : Local lightning OFF (dont use it , it will kill you in heavy populated sims) Preference/Ad.graphic Draw Distance : try 96-196 , depending how crowded <.< expect between 8-20 fps normally, empty sims higher, stare at ground or ocean weee loads.. to bad nothing there ![]() Youre not alone btw, i feel like im back on my old comp latly, SL is utterly slow latly. |

Yeah same. I've tried everything to squeeze out some etra fps on my end but came up with maybe a 1 - 3 fps gain at best. I've tried searching for some D3D wrappers to see if getting SL to run in D3D would improve anything, but all I get is 8-bit alpha channel errors. LL should really focus on improving client side rendering improvements because I've seen people with far better setups only have like no more than 5 frames on me and they have some really hardcore setups. Only PCI-X cards in SLI mode seem to really show signifigant frame rate increases. God knows how disappointed I was when I upgraded from my GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB AGP card to a GeForceFX 5500 256MB AGP and saw no difference in framerates. Sure it looked nicer with my high performance settings using RivaTuner, but the framerates stayed the same.
The biggest difference that I've seen in SL was when I used PCI Latancy Tool and lowered my default latancy from 258 to 64, definitely alot smoother (less jittery when rotating the camera) though still no increase in frame rates. |

upgrading vid card for SL only helps you minimal <.< SL is all about cpu, ram, vid card is a nice + but you dont really need a nv7800 or a x800 (something something) ati card for it,

I'd wait to see if 1.7 helps you out at all before major PC changes..
Give it a couple days to settle, my lag is tons better in preview.. _____________________

a) there is no such thing as lag, as it has been declared against the rules
b) linden lab says blame your ISP for maximum effectiveness _____________________

Honestly there's no where near as much content on the 1.7 preview as there is on the main grid. I doubt I'll see any increases in my frame rate since it seems all lag reduction is being performed server side only. |
