SL, game out of control

What the hell is going on?

I tp'ed to a shop to check out some merchandise. Once there I wait a few mins, soon as I begin to walk, BOOM! I crash. I relog, rezz and this time not more then a few seconds go by when I crash again. I try a third time and again I crash, each time I crash faster then the time before. This isn't the first time this has happened, this happens frequently.

Shop owners are losing out since people can't stay long enough to check out merchandise, let alone buy it.

I hate this. If you look around you'll see the very large increase in complaints of all kinds. SL was never this bad, there were problems before as Linden has never been one to fix things that occur and fix them correctly and in a proper time frame. But now, it's gotten so bad the game seems like its gotten out of control.

People losing money, time, enjoyment and this also causes boredom as you can't tp to places or like now you can't shop as well as many more negatives because of these problems.

Try being a club owner where your staff is paid both by time clocks and by tip jars and the money system goes out for hours and hours on end...no tip hats...no direct pay....time clocks don't work...mass hysteria...dogs and cats living together...

But, this is all a part of the design. If you are a premium member, like myself, this is what you pay $9.95/month for. There is nothing wrong. Nothing...at all. It's all in your head. On LL's servers, you are teleporting just fine. If you have problems, it is *always* user error. SL is perfect and shall not be questioned...NOT EVER! SL is the mostest bestest game in teh worldz and r0x0rz meh b0xorz!

(This is where all of you LL butt kissers come running in and champion how awesome the game is, that anyone complaining should just start their own company and make their own online game, or that SL has the best programmers in the world, and that this game is SO amazing that it is breaking new ground on a daily basis...when people can actually play it.)

You're so right about sl's defenders. But many of us call it as we see it and right now we're seeing it as sl being in terrible shape. Not only terrible shape but management seems to be on 24 hr coffee break as nothing seems to be fixed and things continue to break down all around us on a daily basis.

No amount of sl defense can hide the realization sl is in bad shape atm and continually getting worse.

Ricardo...I REALLY want to like this game. No, no...I REALLY do! But it is hard to love something when it never works. All these people running to support Linden Labs and saying how awesome they are and how awesome the game is...I really have to question whether or not these are just Linden Lab employees with user accounts coming in to keep the restless natives under wraps with their, "OMG, you are all crazy...SL is the best game ever!" mantra.

Please Linden Labs...help me love this game. It's all in your hands. Only you can make things right. Please...I beg of you...

Actually last November was much worse...............

Well, I just joined up yesterday... and I'm having doubts already. I have to relog about once every 30 minutes to an hour to get the game to respond to something "half-normally". This is crazy! From what I've been reading in the forums lately... I didn't think I'd ever realize a day where a company couldn't care for their customers (yes, I subscribed w/ a preferred account... wtf was I thinking) worse than Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.!

Pretty sad... I'm on a FiOS connection, on a 3GHz+ machine, running w/ 3GBs of RAM and a Radeon X1650 Pro (w/ XP Pro). The game and it's load time in most places is dreadfully shameful! I'm always "running in place" for the first 5 minutes I port anywhere! =S WTF... [lost deer in the headlights look].

I used to crash often too but found out that my game crashed because my graphics card was no good - had to change some graphics settings to adjust it perfectly - Now I never crash or rarely.
However, with my other PC, where I got best newest graphics card it is unbelievably slow! I think it is because I have Vista on it...

I'm a new user myself, but i've been pretty patient really as I joined in the midst of these problems about ten days ago when tp was down for extended periods. I think I'll give it till my subscriptions due again, its not a huge amount so a refund is pointless but we'll see if the servers have stabilised a bit when it comes around to pay again. I would of course be of a different mindset had I heavily invested in land or planned for events.

I don't think many people really mind an hourly or two crash in this type of social game, especially of this complexity, its not pleasant but it doesn't effect much. Though the extended downtime is a pain and should, as with other games, have days refunded (on all types of subscriptions) if the servers are simply inaccessible for extended periods.



If you up your bandwidth usage from the client this helps the load time, mine defaulted to about 10% of my capacity initially.


NB what fixed my initial crashing problems was turning down the graphics card memory setting one notch, its a fairly used card but easily enough to run SL on high. I guess just maxing out the memory kept crashing the client, because of possible heat degradation on the card.

yes a couple of hours crash does effect "much" ppl are making real money in this game and continually being not able to log on does have a big impact..you are new and I'm sorry you understanding of what is happening is not quite right...read more of the forums...LL needs to pull it together....

SL has been going downhill for awhile now, i have yet to see something they fix or add, that last more then a few days , this entire year.

They keep showing over and over SL is out of controll and badly managed, faith in SL at all time low now.


This isnt just a post cause SL been down a few daysm, its just having alot of issues every week nowadays, wich just shows its not capable to handle what its trying to do.

No I agree, it was my opinion from my point of view, like I said I'll give them a couple of weeks myself .

Oh let us not forget when there is a problem with the game they dont keep you posted to whats going on at all .

For me SL is now just about the people that I have met & the friendships that have been made there. I login to maintain those & that is pretty much the only reason these past few months. I no longer shop - what's the point? It won't rezz or it will mysteriously disappear one day. I no longer go to events - lag lag lag lag. I no longer try to host events - can't guarantee that I can get there or - lag lag lag. Exploring is pretty minimal these days too - can't tp and/or spend minutes after a tp detaching all that stuff up my arse (when did that bug come back btw?) or - lag lag lag. Or my favourite - you're little & you have tits !! (even though I look fine to myself)

A few months ago I lost many items worth several thousand $L & that pretty much did it for me in terms of further contribution to the SL economy. I have a job in SL to make it pay for itself & so I do not have to buy $L with real currency. Now the question I face - what to do with those $L?

Reading the blog & forum(s) you quickly realise that LL is a very strange company indeed & trying to affect any change is rather pointless.

I never went Premium (thank god !!) and it looks like I never will.

Send 'em to me. I haven't lost a single thing yet, and stuff rezzes just fine for me, if a little slow at peak times.

I find it exceptionally difficult to believe that these issues are targetted at a select group of individuals and not every person who enters SL. That makes *zero* sense whatsoever. That would imply that Linden Labs is intentionally trying to screw over specific people.

I think you are either 1) a liar or 2) you don't do the same things the rest of us do in this game.

I haven't lost inventory as yet and crashes are mercifully rare till the last few days but just about everything else is screwed

Or that Mac's & Linux aren't really that good, having a 20k sized inventory makes you a bigger target for database problems or what you lost is actually just lost in your inventory, 1Gb isn't enough ram, our machine isn't really up to surfing 20 screens of Ebay on a second monitor while running SL, or a few "cut-price" ISP's are really crap. Heck maybe it's just the phone line in your house. I just moved house 2 blocks and am now running my internet via a 10m extension lead and it seems SL has more problems

Taking your frustration out on someone else is never the answer. Quit whinin. Some of the SLers havent had inventory losses. Not their fault. More power to them! I hope they stay that way

Everyone please check your tempers at the door, if they likely to go off accidentally, please keep them holstered

Everyone sooner or later gets hit with inventory loss, I myself have missing inventory. Course it usually happens on things I wouldn't dare report missing *blush*

o.O I haven't lost a single thing yet either. I build. I upload. I make my own clothing. I do combat. I own land with over 1200 prims rezzed. I modify my ZHAO-II and happily drop dozens of nocopy anims at a time into it without worry. I'm even brave enuf to modify scripts in HUDs while they're attached! LOL

I guess LL just hates you. =^.^=
