I am getting in yet crashing within 2 minutes - LITERALLY. Yet I had NO problems logging in with the old version. I even had to turn every one of my settings as low as they could go to even get in that far.

I was in
10-24-2005 18:16
I got in for about 10 minutes
but it was laggy and not alot are on right now. I called Linden Lab hotline about 20 minutes ago and they told me only administrators are supposed to be online and it should be resolved in the hour. Then I tried to TP somewhere, got frozen in space somewhere and had to log off. So I'm back to square one.

I'm an idiot when it comes to "paths" ... I have no clue how to see what symbols are there, or how to create a new one lol :/ Thank you for trying to help with that though.

i sent 3 emails to the support all redy the 2 first time i only gott the grid is down thats why you cant log in. in the 3 i finaly managed explane my problem and i gott "we are currently working on log in problems. thanks for your patians" (yeah i know my spelling suck) i think that means they will get back to me when they have fixed the login problem...

Pain & Suffering

I really do hope that Linden Lab offers some type of compensation for our pain and suffering we have all experienced in the past two days.

Ante Up.....Raising the Stakes

I was in 1.7 on Mac OS 10.4 a couple of times since it was brought up. My money is OK, and performance was actually somewhat improved - picking up 2-3 FPS on frame rate alone. However, this has NOT been the initial 1.7 experience for Mac user's with older, less robust setups.

Based on very preliminary reports, it appears that ppl with, let's say 'nominal' hardware, older OS, and slower connections may be being left behind with 1.7. I have always held to the belief that the 'minimum system requirements" as published by SL are woefully understated. Bottom line, you need a very robust system to run SL the way you want to experience it - WAY more than the 'minimum system requirements".

(OMG.. did I say "WAY"? How ya doing, Wayfinder? Jump in.. the water is fine.)

This is not uncommon, as we all know. Micro$oft and Apple are both known for leaving the less well heeled customers in the dust when it benefits the bottom line and the long term business plan. LL is just following suit and hoping for trump.... pun intended?

Fasten your seat belts and raise your tray tables to the upright and locked position..... we do expect some turbulence on our ascent to cruising altitude.....

I was talking about your windows login name, which is where the cache files etc are stored, if you have a login name or had one that contained the letters áéíóú and are crashing within a second of loading, try creating another temporary login, where the secondlife icon will be and should work without another install.

No probs, just wanted you to get it sorted as soon as possible, so posted a re: to hotline, hopefully that solution will work, the bug was only found saturday night after some puzzling with other forum users, its a very unusual set of circumstances and didnt get reported earlier on when encountered in preview unfortuently, hopefully will be fixed in the first patch if not in a optional patch

Um, why would one have to NOW, suddenly, create a NEW Windows user account without any special characters in it when SL 1.6 worked FINE with them? Is LL on crack? FIX IT!!!!!!!

I am NOT creating a new user account JUST for SL--I simply won't even bother with SL anymore if LL is too inept to fix this SIMPLE bug.

No, I didn't test SL 1.7. But I can't believe no one else caught this bug...or even the LL coders for coding it that way to begin with; that's really pathetic...

Not really its working now how it used to before preview existed, just you had a chance to find the bug and point it out before it went out on the main grid, you joined the preview testing group but decided for your own reason not to test, unfortuently it wasnt till saturday night when some other people were having trouble with preview did it get figured out and reported so was already too late to fix by the time they got to the reports at 9am today

Well, I only went to the preview grid once during 1.6 testing, but I didn't like that I didn't have my current inventory to even TEST with. Plus I don't like having to be in a separate grid JUST to test something, away from everyone else. Active Worlds (AW) never required such lunacy--there was a single universe (uniserver/"grid" in SL) that the client was tested on, and only the world (sim) server software was updated. SL's approach is quite restricting.

Perhaps if I was PAID to test SL--but they didn't think I had enough experience (despite having YEARS of AW testing experience, not to mention 2 years off-and-on contract QA experience testing hardware/software).

Whatever...perhaps if LL had REAL testers who knew HOW to test (not just follow scripts like mindless grunts), they would have caught these BASIC bugs before release.

It's sad how my opinion of LL is rapdily approaching that of AW's developers...
