Problem Linking

I have many pieces of a fence i am trying to link together.I satrt i end a nd link but when i get to the middle i get a mess saying can not link to far apart(they are together).It is the same what ever end i start at.But can link the 2 pieces if they alone.

The maximum separation for linking is 30m, measured from the centre of each prim. If any two prims in the object have centres more than 30m apart you won't be able to link them.

the linking algorithm is really much more complex than that. It is described in detail elsewhere.

Also, you might need to know that even though you cannot link them, you can still *select* them all. Then, when you take into inventory, it all goes in as one item, and when you rez it again, it all pops out as one item. Still not linked, though 8-)

A fuller explanation of this is here:

This is called "coalescence", coalescing many objects into one. When re-rezed, they will all appear in the same relationship to each other that they had when you coalesced them.

Be warned that this feature has been known to not work so well on occasion. For really reliable re-rezzing of a large object, use a rezzing system as the thread says.
