Hi all,

I decided today to jump onto the Second Life Bandwagon and have a crack to see whats the beef with the game and so far im at a reserved opinion. Admitaly, the concept is great, the level of interaction is amazing and while it feels complex to begin with, ive stuck at it for a couple of hours now and im getting to really really enjoy it.

However, one thing stands in my way of staying or leaving and that is a graphical issue I seem to have had ever since I first logged in. I've raised all graphic settings to maximum and I still cant get it to work. For the record, I have a Radeon X800XT 256MB with 1GB of RAM and a 3.4GHz P4 Processor running Windows XP Pro.

The graphic issue is thus, it looks like im running on 16 colours. While a lot of the ground textures and pictures and videos and sound are coming out perfectly fine. My character looks like a blob of mesh and colour crushed together like a pile of playdough and this goes for ALL avatars ive seen walking around the world. When I look at screenshots of the game, this is not what I see. Whether it means anything as well, im running a basic free account at the moment just to try it out.

I'll try and get a screenshot of it shortly just so you can see what im seeing.

Any help would be appreciated. I am a computer technical support worker in real life, so feel free to be as technical as you want with your suggestions, because im out of ideas.

Regards,
Rogue.

Try reducing the distance you rez objects. at 100m there are probably a lot more objects to texture than if you reduce it to say 64m. this will free up your graphics processor to deal with rezzing closer object quicker:)

also you may find there is problems with your isp running slow. your system may be able to deal with the datea but if it is arriving very slowly then it will take time to rez properly
