Anyone know what's wrong when I get bizarre textures on my body and clothes when I edit my appearance? It sometimes doesn't go away after I finish, and I have to exit the game and come back.
I have a Compaq Presario SR1044BB from Best Buy and DSL.

few things that cause this
your baked texture for avatar is corrupt, so you need to delete SL cache, when you start SL, click the > preference , Network , Clear cache , and restart SL again, it should force client to remake the texture you are wearin.
(more advanced way of doing it wich most use) delete content of your C:\Documents and Settings\**username*i\Application Data\SecondLife\cache
^ this folder is hidden by default tho.
other issues ,wich i dont think its your problem; avatar vertex program mess it up / agp accelleration

I tried deleting the network cache, and sizing it at highest and lowest settings and I still have the same problem. I'm also getting around 10% dropped packets in the bar in the upper right corner. Can this mess up my textures? Are dropped packets resent by the server, if not I could have lots of missing data!

you can force a rebake texture on character in debug, but i havnt really seen it do much for me yet ctrl-alt-shift-d , open up a new menu on toolbar, ( debug ) then go to character rebake texture eventually it should remake your avatar textures upload it for others to see , then rez you. ah weekends can be kinda hazardoius, so packloss kinda wacky , you on wireles btw?, some dont behave to well with SL. if you could grab a screenshot it would help, its prob SL messing up with some setting.

Thanks for the tip on the debug menu, Thili, it's a lot quicker than restarting the game! Rebake Textures didn't completely solve my problems, but it helps in mild cases of texture rash.
I accidently discovered a drastic cure though. For unknown reasons, I got kicked off the server at one point and had to restart. When I came back, I got a message that I was no longer allowed access to my last location (Help Island) and was being sent to someplace they hoped I would like. It turned out to be a deserted city in Korea!
With no one else around and no animations to distract me, I tried editing my appearance. For the first time, I got a chance to see how all the body mod sliders are supposed to work without getting disrupted by a lot of bizarre textures. I was in the middle of a fabulous makeover on myself when I heard someone say "Hi".
He was another confused toon marooned just like I was. We explored a bit but couldn't find an exit. Eventually, he wandered off by himself in the fog. I hope he found his way out ok...
I myself finally took a blind teleport to a tattoo parlor a Mentor gave me back on Help Island. Unfortunately, it'd just been leveled by an earthquake (but that's another story).
So I figure the cause of texture rash is just clogged up packet pores that need a chance to exfoliate themselves. I really should've saved a link to Korea so I could go back there whenever I need to spend some time alone...
