I started messing around with tattoo and it is great for accomplishing alignment issues. As far as painting like PS, i just simply blocked things within tattoo ( apocket on jeans for example). Then use that as a template in photoshop and everything should line up. great tool thanks Ari

Yeah deep paint and Zbrush RoX, but you dont use a rivet gun to staple papers together.

Tanya, if you click on a body section (head, upper, lower) on your avatar model, click the layers icon, then doubleclick the color layer, it will bring up a dialogue asking for an image file to place on the color layer. Browse, and add your own texture file, or you can go with the 50% grey default. You can do the same for the other body sections, then you are ready to paint. Hope that helps

neko On the Tattoo forums, he says he's making an openGL one that will also work on Mac. Until then, I tried it on my PC. Is there any way to zoom? It's impossible to see anything or do detailed work. Anybody know of a free Mac program that'll work for this? ZBrush is nearly $400. I don't even want to talk about how much Maya is....

Wynx, I had the same zoom problem. Princess Medici answered it for me at the top of page 2: From: someone click on help and select 'key bindings'. It's a list of all the shortcuts for zoom, rotate, and lots of other stuff.

Hello , Great Work , but not perfect
01-31-2005 05:56
I had to load the object files you provided into 3dmax , i was hopeing to render some nice smooth looking textures with that , when i first opend it i noticed the obj file was cut into object at the wrong places (missed a strip of polygons ontop of the hip part) , and i also noticed slight mismatches in the UV mapping , so i also tweaked with that a bit , the end result has less visible seam lines , but i'm still not happy with this as the avie face is a bit distored and although i was able to fix the lips and nose area it didn't match the original sl mapping anymore , frustrating work i admit my reqeust to you , or whoever did these object files is to instruct me in how to export this data from poser 5 , or what kind of files did u use for it .. would be very helpful but after a day work at this i am pleased with this great important improvment to making great avies in sl if u would like to contact me inworld i'll be interested to share my work with u thank you Nightspy

Is SL_Male.obj borked?
01-31-2005 08:11
First, thanks to Chip Midnight for all of his tips and suggestions, last night! You rock. So, I downloaded Tattoo and began messing around with it. Looks pretty straightforward. However, I cannot load SL_Male.obj. Each time, it pops up an error dialog stating, "Nothing to import." In fact, the only obj file that Tattoo will allow me to import is SL_avatar_OBJ.obj. So, my question is this: Is there a sequence of object importation? I tried loading SL_avatar_OBJ.obj and then importing SL_Male.obj, which didn't seem to work. I primarily design men's clothing and skins, so I really need the "boob-less" avatar mannequin. Suggestions?

Paolo, try downloading the avatars again. I have no problems loading the male av into Tattoo, so maybe you somehow got a corrupt file?

i messed around with tattoo for quite a few hours one night , kinda limited...didnt like the brushes but being able to apply the color you're using to all of the model as if it were a paint bucket is nifty, i guess my biggest critiscizm of this app is that it dosen't render the shading from the apps shader on to the png ...

To use Deep Paint you don't need PS or 3ds Max. The live link function between DP and PS is only there if you want to use PS tools while being able to see the results on the model inside DP. All you really need is Deep Paint.

hmmm?

From: Namssor Daguerre The simple fact that this application paints directly on the models surface with the ability to edit all 3 body textures simultaniously makes this a very usefull tool. However, it is frustrating that most of the painting tools are less than adequate (don't even hold a candle to Photoshop) for detail work. The clone brush and it's opacity control is proving to be useful for minor retouches on seam blending in problem areas like the shoulders. I have not found a way to control the saturation on the burn and dodge tools other than through opacity, so those tools are a disappointment. The most usefull part of this program so far is the ability to monitor visual distortion on the fly by looking at the outline of the brush tools.
It would be very cool if there was a filter like HSoft Squizz that worked in Tattoo, but I'm dreaming. That filter alone is 3 times the cost of the commercially licensed Tattoo software.
I've only played around with Tattoo for about 30 min so far, so I'll report anything else usefull that I find. I'm sure that I'm missing a lot of the finer points of this application, but I'm pleased that the learning curve on this is extremely easy! [ SIZE=5]LOL is this some kind of SL lingo I'm not aware of? This just goes to show why some people are successful in SL and ppl like me are 'getting by' The above is all jibberish to me Im afraid and the sad fact is... I HAVE Photoshop 7 but can barely find my way around it I am slowly 'getting there' with Photoshop 7 but when it comes to templates & layers and shading smudging and the other requirement for creating creases...im lost.
It bugs the HELL out me ...i just wish I had some-one who could litereally sit beside me and we both went through a PS tutorial making some clothes for SL..
I had the same frustration with There...made one top...spent so much on advertising..sold 3 LOL
once bitten & all that.
I know your work Nam I bought your SSkins and updates...you deserve the credit & rewards for your knowledge & skill...
Ppl say ' just learn it! do some tutorials!' but I dont have enough hours in the day an days in the week to learn PS7 AND run an in world business! ( and I dont work either ! due to health) so i dunno...i must be a slow learner.
this tattoo thing looks interesting however? Thanks for that!

Impressive. While there are actually several programs out there that do something like this (Blender does and is freeware, for example), this looks nice and user-friendly. Good for use on my 3D model projects outside of Second Life.
Yeah. We're all spoiled with stuff like this.
Thanks for the link.

First off Im posting from work so I have no access to the PC that has the software
I am tryin to make my uniform from work and was wandering is there a way to put patches onto the clothing textures? Like if I took a pic of the patch and overlayed it onto the skin? Is this possable?

All the program is doing is laying out UV Map data onto the 3D shape in real-time. www.uvmapper.com does similar. The answer in part, then, is yes. However, the texture features for the program are a bit wonky, so I had to use a fairly unorthodox method of getting my texture file to load into it properly. It is possible, yes... but could someone shed some insight on a good way to "open" the file in the program?
