What is the best placement for the long skirt, with flexi skirt attached? Should it still go on pelvis as it will be at the knees? I've tried using upper right leg (etc) and the flexiskirt walks weird. Also, I really would like to get the smart skirt script, or whatever it is.. help on that would be appreciated too.

Any help you can provide on getting these types of skirts looking as good as possible would be appreciated.

.

the skirt is set to where is should be attached by the creator of the skirt ...
when you click Wear to attach the skirt, look at the skirt file,
and it will tell you to what part the skirt is attached ...

you can also look at the top of your screen in EDIT / Detach Object
to see where it is placed

most of my prim skirts are attached to the pelvis ... a few to the stomach
one to the left pec, bcos its long ...

however ... if you need to adjust the placement of the skirt
then Right-Click on the skirt and then click EDIT ...

right away you will see 3 arrows ...
left and right --- up and down --- forward and back

use the arrows to Position the skirt ...

maybe someone knows something about a "smart skirt script",
but i never heard of it

also if by chance your skirt is copyable and modifiable ...
make a copy of it first

then, not only can you adjust the Position, but you can also
adjust all the separate prims, (in other words the pieces),
that make up the skirt, using, the other tools such as Rotate,
Stretch, Select Texture, Edit Links .... and the x-y-z Size Meters
lower on the Edit Panel ...

this will give you an idea how to re-edit, readjust,
and resize the skirt even more, and to use with other outfits
as well as to see how skirts and prims are made ...

--- but it has to be copy and mod to be able to do all of that

if the skirt is modifiable, also click Texture ... you will see that you can
change the color and add your own texture patterns to the skirt as well.

btw, all of the above also applies to any other prim objects you might buy,
including capes, jewelry, belts, shoes, scarfs, and accessories ...
that is, if they are modifiable and/or copyable

hope this helps a little ... cos this is just about all i know about prim stuff

What Arsenic said...

And here is a link to Cale Vinson's Skirt Sitter script (it's the one I use...but there are many out there..)

Skirts need to be placed on one of the attachment points that remain fairly stationary as you walk and gesture - that is, pelvis, stomach, or spine. If the skirt/dress leaves the bellybutton visible, folks will not appreciate it if you use the stomach attachment point, since many use that for bellyrings.

If you are making a multilayer skirt, you may wish to use two attachment points.

There are also skirt designs that use separate linksets for the left and right parts of the skirt, attaching to the left and right hip. (Adored sells some skirts like this; you may wish to pick one up to see, they do have a cute sort of kickpleat movement).

I do have some adord items, they are really well done..

The seperate link sets is what I was wondering about. I use a normal skirt, then have a flexi I created, I want the flexi to be at or below the knees.. Not sit on waist.. I have attached to several areas and it makes some pretty amusing, yet frustrating positions when walking or sitting. The multipoint areas is probably what I am going to have to do, and from what I have seen what other do to recreate this style. Thank you for understanding my question!!
Peace!

Best,

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You rock! thank you thank you thank you

May I ask you a question, since you use this. I got it into my skirt and the positioning looks great, but when changing from one state to the next. (sitting to standing) the prim skirt pops out for a sec or two is this normal?

Glad I could point you in the right direction :)

Yes, it's very normal. It just takes a sec for the script to realized you've moved.

In your previous post you were talking about having a skirt attached onto two separate points...I do my long skirts/gowns like so it looks more natural when walking/dancing..etc.

The skirt will do weird things when attached in two spots, and it takes a bit of patience to move them to where they look most natural. You will not get them perfect for every position since the legs do move separately. I usually attach my 2 parts to the upper leg and move them down to where I want them. It works best for me and my customers like it...but you will have to play with it and see what you prefer.

Enjoy!
