I hate paying L$10 just to see that I messed up. And I usaully have under 100 dollars, so I can't afford to make clothes at this rate.

Is there any outside program, maby a modeling one, or in-game program where I can see the person wearing my outfit?

This "hack" is a little involved, but does the trick nicely if you have Photoshop. See this thread and scroll to the last several posts in it to see the description and subsequent discussion on the technique. It's gauranteed to save you a ton of L$!

Download and install Tattoo 1.85.

http://www.terabit.nildram.co.uk/tattoo/

Get the mannequin file from here:

http://secondlife.com/downloads/avatar.php

Save your clothes as the UPPERBODY, LOWERBODY, or whatever .PNG files in the mannequin directory, and when you open the avatar .OBJ file in Tattoo, you'll see a fabulous preview of your item...

I use it mostly for checking seams, but it has simple drawing and painting tools that I also use for making guidelines for tricksy lines that cross seams.

Tattoo is PC only.

If you are on a Mac, you can download DAZ|Studio for free, and see your textures applied there (although you can't paint on them.)

Since DAZ|Studio isn't always intuitive to use, (it's set up to use the DAZ Poser content,) I'm just going to go ahead and tell you how to see the textures applied. If you don't need the information, you can skip the rest of this post. :D

1. Save your textures as .jpg, .tif or .png files. Studio doesn't read .tga.

2. Open the program, go to File>Import, and browse to the Avatar model .obj file. (Yes, you can open the .cr2 file, but if you do, you'll add 2 extra steps to the process.)

3. Open the Surfaces window (Windows > Surfaces or Command+1) and click on the long button at the top that says "<No Selection>." That's a drop down menu. Choose the body part. (i.e., Material_Upperbody.)

4. On the Basic tab of the Surfaces palette, click on the long button under Diffuse, and choose "Browse for Image..." from that menu.

5. Find the image you want to use, and click OK.

Your image will appear on the model.

Repeat for all the body parts you want to check.

To zoom in on the figure, drag left on the Magnifying glass in the top right of the figure window. (Don't click it, and expect to get a magnifying glass tool. That's not going to happen. Drag directly on the icon.)

To pan, drag the arrows, and to rotate, drag the arrow circle icon.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the Daz hookup!

Being a mac user I was beginning to think we were forever destined to pay for the privilege by not being able to check our work without paying an upload. And cheers for the simple but much needed instructions to get it up and running!

You are most welcome! I'm glad that you found the directions helpful, too.
