Like I said, they're quite simple. And dont mind the web design cuz I'm not a web desiger so I kept it as simple looking as possible. www.angelfire.com/planet/gimptutorialBut hopefully this'll give those without PS or PSP an idea on how to use GIMP for creating textures N stuff.

Thanks. The more I play around with GIMP, the more I like it! Been using it more than Photoshop lately. Some of the stuff, like the Filters & Script-Fu, it comes with is SO neat!!

Hey, very cool, tutorials for us gimp users Could you explain what's up with "RLE compressin" and "Origin at bottom left"? I always leave them checked because I have no clue what they do, and so far it does not seem to have harmed my .tga files, but you specify to uncheck both. Inquiring mind wants to know

I am also using GIMP on Linux for years. I havent done much with alpha channels, though (more simple photo editing). was thinking if editing cannot be made easier following your guide: 1) at the end when saving we can also make some layers unvisible and then save. 2) Might it be possible to fill in the pattern in the given fields if we select them intelligently? I man there is a form that should be usable somehow. I keep working on this. Maybe we can simplify. Vinci

Double bump, but this time with content! Anyone wanna explain where to get the template file that his tutorial alludes too?
I've seen many template files, but none of them look like that...

I'm pretty sure it is the default template from the secondlife.com website.

Yep, that's what it is. You can get them here. But, honestly, you'll be better off with Chip's templates, or mine, both of which have 4 times the edge-matching grid lines of those. Hope this helps!

Inquiring mind wants to know RLE stands for Run Length Encoding just a method of compressing data. Pretty sure it's about the simplest form. Works by taking a a colour followed by number of repeats. So doesn't compress complex pictures too well but a simple picture get's compressed very well. Uses 3 bytes per compression (control character, compressed character and number of repeats ) but obviously they don't compress a single character.

From: Lauren Bellambi How do you duplicate the pattern? Thats not hard, just follow my given steps: 1) Choose the layer you whish to duplicate. 2) DRightclick the Layer (from Layer-Window or directly on the Workspace) and choose "Layer -> Duplicate Layer". You will get a Copy of the Original Layer. 3) move the new layer to the desired location 4) repeat steps 2-3 as long as you wish. 5) Merge down all the copied layers into one layer (if desired): Rightclock the Layer (at the Layer-Window or directly on the Workspace) and choose "Layer -> Merge Down Layer" until you got one layer left.

How do I delte all layers in step two
07-20-2006 15:08
Hello, I have read over and tried to make a shirt with GIMP as shown here: http://www.angelfire.com/planet/gimptutorial/SL_GIMPTUT.htmlI have tried to figure out how to delete all layers except Overlay, UV Map, and Background as instructed but cannot figure out how to with a step by step instruction. Please could you tell me how it is done. I am stuck on step 2 sorry if it a silly request/question. GoldieFawn

Tod69, Could you look at Robin Sojourner's t-shirt template and see why the sleeves and neck end up opaque black when using Gimp? The alpha channel always vanishes when I flatten the image.

To GoldieFawn: Select layer & drag it to the trash can in the lower right corner of the layers window OR just select that layer & click on the trash can.
To BamBam: See that blue layer called "Put Color Here"? Make sure its flattened too. THEN- on the texture layers, replace all that black with white. In the Channels tab, delete the "Transparency" map also.

In the Channels tab, delete the "Transparency" map also. Well I couldn't get that to work, but this seemed to work: - Delete the transparency map
- Disable the cover layer
- Enable the 'Color Here' layer and make it the color I want (white in this case)
- Save to a targa file without flattening the image
Flattening the image always seemed to remove the alpha channel. Is there some preference that I need to set to stop this from happening?

In case you haven't heard there is a version of Gimp that closely resembles Photoshop so if you are used to Photoshop menus and want to use Gimp, here is the answer. http://www.gimpshop.net/I have used it and found it much easier to use than regular Gimp since i am familier with PS.
