Tired of wearing skirts that make my Butt look double size

Someday, I hope SL will adjust the skirt template so that is hugs the butt at the lowest setting. I won't wear dresses much anymore because my av is pretty lifelike in shape, not an anime' style character, and unless I wear my stickperson avie, no dress works properly.

Does anyone know how to work around that? Is LL going to work on that?

You know how sensitive we ladies can be about the size of our butt.

Lol we all have the same problem. Skirts make your rear end look HUGE. I don't have any idea how this can be changed - hope someone else does and will post here.

In this world, there are boob men, and there are butt men. In my case, let's just say that if I'm staring at a woman who I think is hot, its usually not her cleavage that has my attention.

What, exactly, is the problem here?

How to break this to you Ace - women don't dress for men, they dress for themselves (or at least should) and a lot of women hate dragging a huge butt around when they are wearing a skirt lol.

I mentioned this in another thread. One outfit I own actually has the skirt set up as shorts, and adds a hollow prim between the legs to flesh out the 'skirt' look. It works pretty well but of course, there goes another attachment point.

I find myself sticking more and more to pants and shorts these days. I see some female avatars who are purposely *trying* to have large bums, and skirts take them from 'large' to positively ludicrous.

Most people keep a second version of their shape specifically for wearing skirts with the hip and butt sizes reduced so the skirt looks proportional. It's the only way around the "does this skirt make me look fat?" problem.

Lol I have the same problem, glad to know it isn't just me and that I'm not the only who feels she has way too much junk in the trunk. My booty looks fine in pants but I don't wear pants often...but in a skirt..it's like...BOOYA! someone's gonna lose an eye!

I have a friend inworld trying to create just what you are talking about...but...what happens to the prim when you sit down? Her's is just silly, so I am wondering what happens to yours?

That's not a bad idea...but it would be easier if they just made the adjustment.

Yes it would be easier if SL changed that problem but until then like Chip says a copy of your avie with reduced butt and hips works great. I have 3 different ones i believe because the longer the skirt, the bigger the butt. So for ankle length dresses I have a little hips and no butt, for knee length dresses a little more of both, and a little more of both for minis. And I have to say that I'm usually very satisfied with the results. I've actually thought about adding a notecard with those tips to the dresses I've made and sold.

Changing your appearance to match the clothes only works if you dont care about your appearance though.

Not everyone likes to look like a boy-girl with the narrow hips and flat chest. Some of us are trying to look "real" so shaving inches off your bum all the time is not a solution for me.

Not to mention what to do when you take it off! Do you then have to switch to a nude version of yourself with a restored bum? I have a suspicion that not many "real" (buxom) women work at Linden Labs. (I bet it's all bicycles in the parking lot). :)

I find it strange that for boobs and butt anything above 50% on the slider means you have clothes troubles. It seems like the sliders are that way so one can make an incredibly fat avatar, but how many people want to be morbidly obese? I have only seen a few who do it part-time for laughs. Yes while the possibility of such obesity is completely supoprted, a mid-range buxom woman (which lots more people want to be) is not so supported. ??

The real solution is a better skirt, and I would love it if a Linden could comment on why this seems to be so difficult or why it is so low down on the list of things to fix, when more than half of SL consists of women looking for clothes?

For short skirts the attachment point needs to be lower on the torso is all, and for long ones it just needs to hug the body a bit differently at the hip. I dont see why this is so hard.

The skirt is the way it is to keep the polygon count reasonable. It has a different mesh layout than the lower body does and it needs to be able to conform to all the different possible lower body shapes without intersecting. The only way to do that without making it have as many polygons as the lower body is to keep a bit of distance between the skirt mesh and the lower body mesh. That's not likey to change any time soon.

The prim is actually attached to my thighs, so it bends with my thighs.

Mostly, though, I try not to sit down :)

Why not make a skirt that has 2 prims (or sets) and when you sit you can issue a command to switch between the prims? Design one prim/skirt for standing and one prim/skirt for a sitting looking. And just use alpha or something to hide the 'inactive' prim. Maybe put it on a non standard channel or touch to switch looks (owner only of course).

I assume the easiest way would be to save a copy of your shape in the same folder with your outfit. Then just click the shape icon like you would any other piece of clothing.

Er... I think you'll find that they do. Not exclusively, I grant you, but women do. To suggest anything else to be a fact is a very modern and righteous form of disinformation... imho ;)

Wear any skirt and adjust your body shape until it looks proportional again. Then do a "save as" on your adjusted shape and name it something like "my dress shape." Put a copy of it in a folder with any skirt outfit. Just drag and drop the folder on your av to wear the skirt and shape. Keep your normal shape someplace easy to find and just double click it when you switch back to pants, or copy it into folders with your non-skirt clothes the same way you do your dress shape.

Because my avie is supposed to be a classical Italian marble sculpture come to life, it is appropriate for me to wear togas--which in SL are based on the skirt template.

When a guy wears a SecondLife skirt, the butt doesn't poof out, but the skirt's beltline shrinks until it is smaller than his hips and parts of his lower back show through the skirt!

All in all, I hope Linden adjusts the skirt model so that both women and men can wear skirts properly!

Yes and no. :)

There are occasions where I want to look good for men, like when I go out. There are other occasions when I want to look good for me - like most of the time.

But to be realistic about it, women pay so much attention to details like accessories and colors when most men only notice the length of the thigh or the size of the rack. A lot of that is a waste of our effort. :)

I love dresses & skirts.... R/L or S/L makes no difference. I buy what I like to wear. Most of the time the men in my life like what I wear. >: ) Call me what you will, but the men in my life are hard working self starters who enjoy the company of a hot lady. I have lots of control over what I look like and I take advantage of it. Personal opinion.... men work hard enough and deserve the reward of having something pleasing to look at whether it's in a halter, sweater, mini-skirt, or pants. The problem I have with skirts in general is the waist, but since the shape of the skirt is preset by the template I simple buy wisely from designers who know their stuff and how to make the template produce the best skirt product out of a given fabric. I also have a "skirt" shape for certain dresses etc.

I've taken to making skirts with a more dropped waistline, placing the top edge of the skirt alpha about at the crest of the pelvis a bit below the actual waistline, what would figure as 1-3" down on a real body. I then use a similar texture that includes the actual waistline & appropriate detail (belt, etc) as a pair of pants (shorts) with just that bit on it. This is where using Chip's templates comes in extremely handy, I might add. /me grins real big at Chip :D This is more work, but the finished look is far sleeker on the avie.

I personally do like a moderate to generous backside on my avie & I wear skirts most of the time, so this is a little less concern to me than to some of you. :p
