1) Compress checked or no for .tga? I don't see that it does anything to check that but I wanted to know if it should be or not. Could someone tell me what that's suppose to do?


TGA compression is lossless so there are no quality issues when using it. It just saves you disk space. I always use TGA compression.

2) Note in the pix below that my head skin seems to be darker than the upper/lower body. I'm colorizing them the exact same ways on the psd


It may be caused by the difference in relative scales between the head and upper body texture compared to the size of the actual polygons of the avatar mesh. If you're using a noise effect or something similar to create grain in your skin the grain needs to be about 3-4 times finer on the head texture. If the noise pattern is the same size on both parts it may look in SL like there's a significant luminance or color shift across the neck seam.
