Hi all! I'm continuing to work on my Guide to Creating Clothing (found here: http://www.nicolaescher.com/tutorials.php) but i'd like to hear from you all if there's anything specific you'd like to see and generally where you think you need the most help. I am currently working on sections about creating more advanced clothing and what shortcuts/tools I use to create clothing from scratch. Are you more interested in advanced techniques? Or do you want to see examples of each kind of clothing type and the challenges in creating them? Do you want to know how to create good dolls/mannequins for display? What would be your ideal guide? Let me know if you've got some ideas. Thanks, Nicola

Hmm let's see... I think a tutorial about creating shoes would be a nice thing. I've read on these forums that it's quite complex, and so far I've had a hard time doing it as well, so I assume many other people would find it useful?... *smiles*

Yeah even possible tips and tricks kind of stuff. Ways to do things easier. That would all be very cool. Maybe even a tutorial on new designers and setting up a shop. Where to go? Best way to do it? How to actually design it? How to gain business?

I must say that was an EXCELLENT Tutorial! I don't have that software at work, only Paint Shop Pro. I have not figured out how to transfer that information to this software yet, but will play with it more tomorrow and see if I can do it with both Paint Shop Pro and PhotoShop. But if someone already has a tutorial of the same thing in PaintShop Pro, it would be extremely welcome!
Thank you Nicola Escher!

Hi, all! Thanks for the feedback, it's very helpful. Shoes and makeup are definite. I did my first skin a couple weeks ago, and while it turned out nicely, if I did a step-by-step it would probably be 500 steps -- so I may do a more general hints/tips thing for skins/facial textures. andre: could you give me an example of headgear? Are we talking hats? or does your av want braces Nicola (edit: as an aside, believe me when I say that the L$ you pay for skins is well worth it -- making a good one is a lot of work; you are a masochist, Chip Midnight!)

From: someone Originally posted by andre Spaight im talkn hats, beanies, and glasses because of the way our hair is set up making universal hats is not easy in the least... beanies are especially bad. You can alter your avatars headshape to make it easier.. i.e. make the hat and then make your head fit the hat... luckily my av is and always will be bald so I can wear most hats alright. glasses are quite a bit easier and just take some precise small building.

This thread has been dead a long time, but OMG, someone please clue me on on shoes. I love shoes! I want to make some shoes and you should see the horrible things that I ended up making! LOL
Is there a tutorial anywhere about shoes? I have read through 15-20 pages of threads that a search on "shoes" turned up and I have yet to see anything.
Anyone that can help would be so much appreciated. The roots of my hair will thank you too!

Some support for Paint Shop Pro would be cool.
Although I haven't looked real hard a hair tutorial would be nice.

I'm still tackling alpha channels in Photoshop 9.0 so any further help with that would be great. I may actually wind up using PSP so any tutorials about its use would be helpful. Nichole, thanks so much for your tutorials. They are great.

Wings

Thanks for all you've done! I would like a turorial on things like wings. I've created them have the alpha down but when I create them in world the texture on one side is flipped! Now I would love to know the trick to fix that!

There's nothing magical about them. They are simply an alpha channel linked to a layer. They are convenient becuase you can turn them on and off by linking and unlinking them. If you select a layer with a layer mask on it and click on the channels tab you will see that mask listed in italics as an alpha channel. You can open it up and edit it like any other channel.
