Alpha for SL can only be processed and uploaded as .tga,
Also what program are you using to create your alpha? different programs and versions of them can vary on alpha creation. |

I Made The Alpha Fine It Is Just A Problem When I Save It Can Someone Plz Help Me I Am So Upset!! :.( what I found making this happen...is...go to new and set the background to transparency and then 72. i had the back ground set to save as solid white. oh also you said photoshop elemnts correct. i have that and photoshop cs. there is a plug in for TGA's missing and you need that if you didnt DL that yet. I would have to ask my game-mate Bobby Riva he is the one who has helped me with this. GoldieFawn Fielding |

Ummm.. Photoshop Elements doesn't let you look at your alpha channel. So.. umm... what steps are you using to make one?
If you're not using Save Selection, then you're not actually making an alpha. I'm not sure what you are doing. Transparency in the layer, or transparency in a mask, isn't an Alpha Channel, I'm afraid. On the other hand, if you are using Save Selection, but you're using it more than once, then you have more than one Alpha channel. When faced with that situation, the .tga acts as if there's none. So you won't have one in SL, and your transparency will be white, exactly as you've seen. It's a little annoying, not being able to see the Channels; but if you delete all the Saved Selections, and then Save the one you want, you should wind up with the single alpha channel that you need. _____________________

Sarah, GoldieFawn posted at the time I was answering, which is why I'm posting again right away.
I strongly advise you not to use the plug-in she's talking about. If you aren't using Save Selection, then you aren't making an alpha channel. Period. The plug-in she's referring to is a failed experiment from Photoshop 7.0. There are all kinds of reasons not to use it, as detailed in other posts throughout this forum. It makes an embedded alpha, which is very likely to cause problems for you down the road. It's like saving files to a CD/RW. It seems like a good idea at the time; but if you need to read it later on a different machine, you're likely to find that you can't. (In my experience you have about one chance in three of reading those things on a drive that didn't create them.) So, Sarah (and GoldieFawn, and anyone else who is reading this,) please learn to take the 3 seconds it takes to make a real Alpha Channel. Odds are you'll be glad later that you did. _____________________

I only installed it because I was having alpha problems. It did work for a lil while. I do have difficulty with alphas and blamed it on my PS program not being up to par. I am interested in what you have said and highly honor your opinion. Correction excepted. Now tell me more. GoldieFawn Fielding |

GoldieFawn, it does work. It just doesn't work as well as you might think, and it is very likely to cause problems down the road, because it's incompatible with so many other things.
If you could explain exactly what problems you were having, and perhaps send me a file to examine, I can tell you how to make it work. Let's start with this... Which version of Photoshop are you using? ![]() _____________________
