Does anyone know of a site with tutorials showing SL-oriented content generation using the GIMP editing app?

Also, I am trying to find texture generation plugins for the GIMP.

I suggest you learn GIMP first, rather than focussing on SL uses of GIMP. I like the book, GIMP, Beginner to Professional. There is another free HTML book called Grokking the GIMP that is not too bad.
